Our first day of school is successfully completed!
Our morning started out with Emily being quite a grump and therein we had quite a few interruptions. Such is often the case and to be expected when you are homeschooling with a 21 month old running around. Nathan did very well, he listened and followed instructions and seemed to really enjoy it. I think he wanted to do more, as the first lessons are pretty much a review of things he already knows. However review is quite important and necessary and at the moment, I am religiously following the A Beka curriculum recommendations, which is quite thorough. Perhaps in the future when I am more sure of myself and of Nathan’s abilities, I will consider skipping ahead, but not now.
I think I was pretty organized and I think my mom would have been proud. =)
Right after we finished school this morning, our pug, Abby started barking quite excitedly outside. Normally she doesn’t bark much, so I peeked outside and saw she was barking at something on the ground. I slipped my sandals on and went out to investigate. Abby was barking at a one eyed toad! I was very excited because I love toads. My brothers and sister and I used to hunt toads in our yard when were kids and it was so much fun to catch them and hold them and watch them hop around. They are just fascinating, sweet creatures. This toad only had one eye – his right eye was just missing, nothing there. The left eye was normal. Odd, but who knows. This was the very first toad we’ve ever found (or should I say the dog found) in our yard here. Regardless, I was excited to show the kids.
Here’s a few photos:
Is that smile precious or what?
Here is Mr. Toad:
(Excuse the somewhat blurry photo – I am getting all too sick of the more and more crappy pictures our Cannon Powershot is taking lately. *sigh*)
By the way, I need some camera recommendations. I am not a great photographer, but I need something more than our basic Cannon Powershot that takes only so-so photos. If you can recommend a decent, not too complicated but has options, reasonably priced camera, please post! Thanks! 🙂
