I’m sick today.
Last Sunday, Nathan started sounding hoarse & mentioned his throat hurt. It turned into a cold/cough/sore throat bug. Thankfully, he kicked it fairly quickly (thank heaven for echinacea & elderberry – I swear by these!) Nate (hubby) came down with it on Tuesday. He was sick in bed for a day and also kicked it fairly quickly, thanks to rest, meds, and herbs. I prayed & prayed & pumped Emily full of vitamins in hopes of keeping her healthy. And amazingly, she still is!
We were supposed to have some new friends from church over for dinner tonight. We worked hard all day, cleaning, picking up, & organizing the house. I went to bed tired. I woke up at 2 am, feeling sick – my throat was scratchy, my glands were swollen, and I had a really stuffy nose. I prayed it was just from me overdoing it and I would be fine when I woke up, but no such luck.
I’m sick. I have been taking elderberry & echinacea (thankfully my dr okayed them during pregnancy) but not as much as I normally would because I’m hesitatant to take extra during pregnancy. And being pregnant, I can’t take much when I’m sick either. I’ve taken Sudafed and Tylenol and those help a little, but not as much as some of the “normal” meds I can’t take now. We cancelled our dinner with friends, so I’m really disappointed, but obviously there was no way around it. Hopefully I’ll get better quickly and everyone else will stay healthy & we can have our friends over soon.
I also have a horribly sore calf muscle from a bad Charley horse I woke up with on Thursday morning. Yes, three days later. I occasionally get Charley horses when I’m pregnant, but normally that sore, tight feeling is gone within 24 hours. I’ve never had one linger for this long before. I can’t take Ibuprofin. I read that extra magnesium can help, but I’m already taking it for my headaches (which is working like a charm, Praise the Lord!) My leg is so sore I can hardly walk. It’s not getting better and I don’t know what to do except stay off it. (Easier said than done with kids, right? especially with Nate heading back to work on Monday!) If it’s not any better by Monday, I’m going to put in a call to my doctor and see what she says…I don’t know what to do. Does anyone have any tips?
I think I forgot to post an update to my doctor appointment on Wednesday. I saw my wonderful PCP, Dr Oteri. I just love how she will come into the room, sit down, fold her hands, and patiently ask me what is going on as if she has all the time in the world. I never feel rushed with Dr Oteri. She is amazing. I told her everything that is going on – from how I’m feeling a bit depressed to my issues with the OB office and peri appointments. Dr Oteri thinks my depression is coming from a Vitamin D deficiency, which I’ve had in the past and am much more likely to have now, now that I’m pregnant and baby is taking up any extra’s I have. I had lab work to test for that and at my follow-up appointment in 2 weeks, we’ll discuss the results. Most likely that is the problem and a simple supplemental vitamin D will help tremendously. Dr also confirmed that I don’t need the Rhogam shot during pregnancy, unless I need some sort of invasive procedure (like an amnio.) She also said in regards to the glucose testing which I turned down with Emily and had quite a bit of pressure from my OB that I can simply go for a fasting test first thing in the morning at a lab NEAR me (not an hour away like OB wanted) or simply skip it altogether. She agreed that I am not at risk for gestational diabetes and if it did occur, there are enough signs & symptoms that we could pick up on it without doing an only partially accurate test for it anyways. So great to hear that! I left feeling very encouraged and confident in myself and my decisions. Dr Oteri agreed with me on all my pregnancy concerns/decisions and that felt great.
In the meantime, I’m doing my best to relax (trust me, it’s not taking a lot of convincing between feeling sick, exhausted, and then my leg killing me.) So I’ve finally uploaded our Christmas photos and will be posting some on here later today.
In the meantime, I have uploaded them to our Picasa Web Album. Friends & family know where that is – feel free to check it out.
