It went so much better today compared to my last ultrasound at 18 weeks…. link. We had to wait for 1/2 hour in the waiting room, but it was worth it. I held my breath when the tech called me back, but she didn’t say a word about the kids. They had upgraded the office since the last time I was there and this time, they had a nice plasma screen on the wall so I (and Nate & the kids) could see better than trying to crane my neck to watch the same screen the tech was viewing.
The tech was great. She spent about 25 minutes going over everything. And she did get that extra view of the heart that they were unable to get previously and said everything looked fine. We already knew that, but it was good to hear once again that our baby looks healthy.
At one point, Nathan & Emily were getting a little bored and Nate said he would take them out. This was about 10 minutes into the scan. The tech looked up from the screen and said “Oh no, they’re actually being really good. Don’t worry about it!” (SUCH a difference from our last experience with the perinatologist doctor! Take THAT, you darn peri. See my kids are NOT brats!)
Nathan enjoyed seeing his little brother on the screen. He thought it was fun to see the baby’s heart beating and the spine and everything. And he thought it was hilarious when the tech jiggled my belly with the wand as she was trying to get Joshua to move a bit for a different angle. He was laughing so hard and then I had to try really hard to not laugh so the tech could get her measurements. It was so funny.
Joshua cooperated much better this time. He is still measuring a week ahead and he now weighs 1 lb 8 oz. No wonder I am starting to feel bigger! His head and arms are up by my ribs and his feet are down low. I was surprised at how high up he is already, but that explains why I’ve been feeling little nudges (I though kicks, but apparently it was his little arms) on my ribs already.
Joshua is looking great. He is so cute! He likes to keep his hands up by his head and it reminded me so much of Emily, who was (still is when she sleeps!) the exact same way. And we were able to get some decent photos this time! The tech really tried hard and I really appreciated it. It was such a better experience than our 18 week scan and I plan on calling the medical practice and letting them know.
So here is our little boy – Joshua Thomas!
