Today is a bittersweet day for me. On one hand, I’m sad because it’s the due date of our little one we lost last September. On the other hand, I’m happy because I have a bouncing healthy baby boy in my tummy who we’ll get to meet Lord-willing in exactly 5 weeks from today. I’m also really happy because…
Today was our last day of school! That’s right! Nathan has graduated from kindergarten! I am so proud of my not-so-little-anymore boy! He is reading quite well, he can write beautifully, add, subtract, tell time. He is so smart! We finished our last lessons today. It was a great feeling.
It felt odd in a way because it seems like it was yesterday that we were starting to homeschool and I was feeling overwhelmed and inadequate. But to look at Nathan today! He has THRIVED with homeschooling and not only has he completed the entire A Beka kindergarten curriculum, but he has excelled in it.
My husband tells me all the time that it is because I am such a great teacher. But I think – no, I know – it’s because God has blessed me with such a smart, eager-to-learn child, and through His grace & wisdom, we were able to do it! I also have my wonderful mom to thank as well. She was there for me so much throughout this past year – at the beginning when I called her discouraging, feeling that I could not do this (she encouraged me that every homeschooling mom has gone through that adjustment period, it was completely normal, and I could do it!) to my joy throughout the year as Nathan continued to learn more and more. To my questions about the curriculum for next year to my excitement that we were going to finish this week! Thanks, Mom, for all you’ve done and continue to do!
We finished our first year of homeschooling! Thank You, Jesus!
Next fall, Nathan will be in 1st grade. And yes, we absolutely, whole-heartedly plan to homeschool again. We’ve already ordered the 1st grade curriculum.
