To say I am busy lately is an understatement! I have barely found the time to check my email in the past few days, much less write a blog post.
I don’t know how much time I’ll have right now either so I’ll try to keep it short. (haha, yeah I know a short post from me – very funny!)
Nate is away on business (hopefully he’ll be home tomorrow) and we are surviving!!! Woohoo! Actually I’m doing much better than I had thought. I’m tired, but I’m still here and I haven’t lost my mind (yet! Ask me again later tonight though! lol)
First an update on Joshua: his thrush is almost gone and as of last Friday/Saturday he was a much happier baby.
That changed on Sunday and he became very cranky again.
Monday was hard. I called my mom crying because I was so tired and not sure how I was going to manage things. While talking with her, I decided that I definitely needed to change Joshua’s formula. We had been using Enfamil Gentle-ease (the Parent’s Choice generic version.) But I had started wondering if it wasn’t setting right with his little tummy. His stools have been harder than I thought they should be for the past week or so, on top of his off-and-on crankiness. I wouldn’t say he was constipated, but close. His fussiness wasn’t just an I’m-fussing-because-I-need-to-or-I’m-tired kind of fuss, but rather where he seemed uncomfortable. I consulted with the doctor and she suggested we wait to get the thrush under control and then if he was still unhappy, try changing formulas. So that seemed the next step. We’ve used Nestle Good Start with the other two, so we decided to go that familiar route again.
On Monday, I was super tired and still really sore.
We had gone to 2 stores on Friday (I just really needed to get out of the house) and I came home super sore and exhausted. It was pretty discouraging. Then on Saturday, I came down with a scratchy throat. I wasn’t sure if it was allergies due to the crazy weather (more on that later) – although I’ve never had allergies before – or a cold. Whatever it was, I seemed a little better by Sunday but I was still really tired and sore on Monday.
I didn’t know how I would manage to get all three kids out to the store by myself to pick up the new formula. Yet I was desperate to get Joshua started on it. So I called my dear friend and asked if she could help me out. She did. I was/am so grateful to her. She’s such a dear! Love you, my friend!!!
Since starting to switch Joshua over to the Good Start, I’ve already noticed a difference. He hasn’t been as fussy and he’s sleeping better at night. On both Monday night and last night, he slept a 6 hour stretch, then another 3 hours! That’s amazing for a 3 week old! (Now I’m just praying this wonderful new trend continues! 😉 )
Yesterday my cold came back, so I loaded up on vitamins and meds and prayed that I wouldn’t get Joshua sick. Or Nathan & Emily. I went to bed super early last night and as I said before Joshua was really good, so I feel more rested and on the mend today. I’m still praying that Joshua doesn’t get it. If you could pray for us too, I would really appreciate it.
I have taken tons more pictures, but once again I haven’t had time to upload them to the computer so I’ll have to share them later.
I also have to post pictures/videos of that whopper of a thunderstorm we had on the 4th. It turns out, there was a small tornado down our road too – just a tiny little funnel, I don’t think it was even reported, but someone saw it… The worst of the storm (which happened to hit our town the hardest out of the entire state) centered on our neighborhood. Wow. Never underestimate the power of the prayers of a young child! Nathan asked Jesus for a thunderstorm and Jesus gave him one!
Well Emily is throwing a major fit outside at the moment so I have to close… more pictures coming soon!
Oh yes and Joshua is 3 weeks old! And to celebrate his 3 weeks, he smiled for the first time yesterday!!! It was definitely a real smile and not gassy – he looked at me for a few seconds as I was talking to him and gave me this adorable precious grin! Sooo sweet! My other two didn’t smile until 4 weeks or so!
I also weighed him yesterday and he’s up to 11 lb 7 oz already. My little chunky monkey!!! Awwww…
Ok – so two pictures. These are from Saturday, the first day in ages where we finally saw the sun (admist some very weird storms.) Joshua stared and stared at the window for a good 20 minutes. I think the poor baby was trying to figure out what that bright light was – it was afterall probably the first time he saw the sun!! It’s rained so much this summer that they’re saying it’s been one of the coolest/rainiest June’s in about a hundred years!
