We are home!
We had a crazy but good trip but I am so happy to be home. It’s great to visit family, but there’s nothing like home sweet home!
We had an eventful trip on the way down. Long story short – we (unavoidably) ran over a traffic cone and it damaged our minivan. We were forced to stop and after staying in a crappy but expensive hotel for a few hours so a mechanic could open up (this happened at 3 am – imagine that – 3 screaming exhausted kids, Nate & I were beyond tired, and we were in Connecticut – 2 hours from home so too far to go back but definitely too far to continue), we learned it would take at least 3 days to repair it! We ended up having to get a rental, repack the van, and after an eight hour delay, continued on our journey. We hit rush hour traffic and horrible rain, but we finally made it safely to North Carolina – 23 hours after we left.
I don’t know why that happened, but I know the Lord does and we kept reminding ourselves that He knows best. Maybe He was saving us from a horrible accident with a drunk driver? We will never know, but I do know that as frustrating, exhausting, and miserable as the whole situation was, we were all safe.
It was definitely a good lesson in patience for me and another lesson for me in learning to surrender completely to Him.
More to come later.
I am sooo tired now – I had an interrupted 2 hours of sleep last night before we got up and left at 11 pm (last night) and drove 14 hours straight home. (stopping in Connecticut to pick our minivan, which is fully repaired now.) My head is spinning. I’m trying to get a few things unpacked and get the kids ready for church tomorrow. And definitely going to bed super early! I’m ready now but of course the kids aren’t… you know that little issue. 😉
God is good. Thank You Lord.
