Nathan & Emily were running around laughing & chasing each other a few minutes ago. I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and overheard Nathan saying something: “The zombie is going to get you!” I stopped and listen closer and sure enough they were laughing & playing & talking about “zombies!” Of all things! I asked Nathan what they were doing. “Oh we’re playing the zombie game, Mom. I am the zombie and if I touch Emily, she is a zombie and has to get me. It’s really fun!” I asked where he learned about zombies. He said “It’s ZOB-IE, Mom, and I just thought of it.” And he ran off to play. They are still running around playing “Zobie” (like Zombie, but without the ‘m’) and having a wonderful time.
I have no idea where/how Nathan ever heard of zombies. Of all the bizarre things! My kids watch very little tv, and what they do see is carefully monitored and child-appropriate. And to my knowledge, none of their friends have mentioned it, although that’s the only other place I can think of.
Kids. Go figure.
