We went to the park yesterday and Nathan finally figured out how to ride his bike! It only took Daddy about 30 seconds of the proverbial holding onto the bike seat and jogging next to him before Nathan was riding on his own! Of course, then Nathan saw Daddy jogging beside him hands-free and he fell over, but then that’s what you’re supposed to do when learning how to ride a bike, right? It’s pretty much a given.
Here’s Nathan, the first time Nate let go – I don’t think Nathan was quite convinced he had done it until I showed him this picture and that helped boost his confidence and away he went!:
He only ran off the road a few times and into one sign. Not too bad!
Before long, he was riding like a pro, making turns, stopping, and doing a really good job.
So yes, Nathan is 7, but he’s figured it out! Last summer, he wasn’t interested in learning, not to mention I had just had Joshua and Nate was gone for most of the summer traveling, so it just didn’t happen. This summer, we’ve been pretty busy up until now. Plus, our road isn’t the best place to learn as it’s pretty hilly, so that left the park, which was a perfect place.
Here’s my big boy! I am so proud of him!
Emily & Joshua swinging with Daddy, while Nathan rode laps around the park:
At one point, I pointed out to Nate how you can see some of the different stages of childhood – there was Nathan riding his bike:Emily on the swings:
And Joshua eating pinecones – “What? Me eat a pinecone?! Never!”
Funny isn’t it?
