Here’s a little random something for you:
I think everyone has these annoying little pests in their kitchen once in awhile. They inevitably come in with the bananas or some other produce. We’ve had quite a few the past couple with all the fruit we’ve been buying and then the hot humid weather.
Have you ever wondered how to get rid of them without resorting to chemicals and other nasty things?
Here’s a quick cheap way to make an all natural, no-chemicals fruit fly trap with things you probably already have around the house:
All you need is:
-apple cider vinegar (super cheap at the grocery store if you don’t already have any)
-cup or small bowl
1) Pour some apple cider vinegar into your cup or bowl.
2) Cover with plastic wrap.
3) Take a fork and poke multiple small holes in the plastic wrap. Don’t worry if a hole rips and is a little bigger than you intended.
4) Now put the bowl/cup near the fruit flies. Give it a day and before you know it, you’ll have a bunch of dead fruit flies inside! I’ve found it doesn’t seem to attract the little pests in the first 24 hours, but after that it’s like a magnet. So don’t toss your little trap quite yet if you don’t see it working right away.
It works pretty simply: the fruit flies are attracted to the scent of the apple cider vinegar. They find their way through the small holes in the plastic wrap, but then are unable to get back out.
Note: this doesn’t work for the other little pesky gnats that you might find around house plants.
