It’s Friday! It’s a beautiful perfect day, and so far, it’s been a good day in our house.
Thank you for the sweet comments regarding my not-so-fun morning yesterday. We mothers do have to deal with a lot sometimes, don’t we? Still, I am reminded that I am incredibly blessed and I would take getting hit on the head or puked on any day just to be their mother.
What are you doing this weekend? Any special plans or are you going to take it easy?
We’re probably going to stay close to home – I have a few errands – grocery shopping (I just don’t have the energy to take all the kids with me by myself during the weekday lately), Shaw’s, Walgreens, & CVS to get some more deals. I know Nate is planning on finishing a few small projects around the house. Hopefully we’ll get a family walk in or two as well.
I’m 15 weeks pregnant now and the time seems to be flying. I don’t remember it going this quickly in the past; I’m betting it has something to do with my 3 little rugrats I have to keep up with! Really, I think the rest of this pregnancy will fly by – it’s almost fall, we’re starting school in just over a week, then we have fall activities like the fair, maybe apple picking, etc. Then my birthday (not so much to me, but the kids enjoy celebrating), Emily’s birthday, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas! Once Christmas arrives, I’ll have just about a month (or less) to go!
I feel pretty good most days now. I still have to make sure I don’t get hungry during the morning or the nausea shows up and the same for the evening, but it’s MUCH better than before. Thank you, Lord! I’m back to keeping up with the household – laundry, cleaning, cooking – all of that. It’s amazing how much I enjoy it when I’m able to keep up with it and I’m not trying to keep from throwing up while wiping off the counter, etc.
My “big” ultrasound is less than 2 weeks away. There’s only one day left to vote in my boy/girl poll, so if you haven’t already, get your vote in now! (When I set up the poll, I didn’t know when my u/s would be and I can’t change the end date or I would extend it!)
In other “news,” I forgot to update about Joshua. He’s had a heat rash on the back of his knees off and on all summer. It came and went as the hot/humid days came and went, but about a month ago, it stopped “going” and stayed. I tried Aquaphor, OTC hydrocortisone cream, baby powder, even Neosporin, and nothing seemed to help. So I called the doctor and they had me bring him in last week. The NP prescribed a prescription hydrocortisone cream and Bactriban, as it was starting to look infected. They also did a culture just to make sure there was no yeast or other things going on. I didn’t realize they were looking for staph, etc. and sure enough, they called me 2 days later to let me know it came back positive for Staph. They assured me it wasn’t a big deal but they wanted me to give Joshua some oral antibiotics too just to be safe. My doctor is pretty cautious in prescribing antibiotics (and I am very cautious too) so I know if they prescribe it, it’s important. I hate having to give it to Joshua, but I know you don’t mess around with things like staph, so we’ve been very diligent about it.
Thankfully the creams and antibiotics are helping and the heat rash is almost entirely gone. And Joshua is happier too. I think the rash bothered him more than I realized, poor guy.
In current “news,” I always think it’s funny when I’m able to ‘catch’ my kids unaware. Nathan & Emily were just outside playing and I hear Nathan on the other side of the house talking to his friend across the street. “Poopy ice cream, Poopy ice cream.” That kind of talk is not allowed in our house. I have a bar of soap in the bathroom and if one of them breaks the rule (Emily’s only done it once, Nathan once in a while if he thinks I don’t hear him), they have to sit with the bar of soap in their mouth for an appropriate amount of time. That “cleans” things up very quickly.
So I hear Nathan talking and I went to listen out my kitchen window (where Nathan couldn’t see or hear me) to be sure I was hearing correctly. Yep, he was definitely saying what I thought he was. So I called out the window “Nathan, come inside please.” And Nathan is immediately quiet for a split second and then goes “Oh NO!” He totally thought I couldn’t hear him.
It’s kind of like the “mom has eyes on the back of her head” thing that always baffles kids. How on earth did she see me do that? I think it’s one of the secret pleasures of parenthood. Maybe I’m just weird though. 😉
Of course, the best part is when you secretly catch them doing something good. Like the other day, when I overheard Nathan & Emily having a conversation about Jesus. They were talking about how He is a good friend and how they want to play with Him some day in heaven. Now that made my heart melt!
Sorry, no pictures today! I’ll get some more up soon.
Thanks for checking in with me! Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
