We’re home! Praise the Lord!
When I arrived at the hospital this morning, Joshua sounded more congested and was tired and cranky. It wasn’t looking good for a release today. The team of doctors/residents decided to double Joshua’s albuteral (inhaler) dose and increase it to every 4 hours vs the previous 8 hours. This seemed to do the trick and Joshua started doing better. He took a 2 hour nap this morning and his O2 levels stayed at 94 and above, without any oxygen! I know all of your prayers were being heard!
I was really encouraged but wasn’t going to count on us going home tonight. In fact, Nate left his bags, I brought my pillows – we fully anticipated another long night.
This afternoon Joshua was happy & played for awhile and then started getting whiny when he became tired. Only he refused to nap. He jumped all over the hospital crib and whined and then laughed and then whined some more. The nurses had told me the inhaler can make them “jumpy” and “hyper” and I could definitely see that happening with Joshua. He finally fell asleep for about 20 minutes, during which his SATS stayed at 97-98! Wonderful! But I didn’t think it would be long enough for the doctor to count it – they really wanted to see how he did during a “deep sleep.”
But at 5 pm, the doctor came in, listened to Joshua’s lungs and said he sounded fantastic. Then she said we could go home! Amazingly, they got his meds & prescriptions together pretty quickly & we were out of the hospital by 6:30. Nate hadn’t even gotten back from picking up the kids, so I took Joshua & drove home.
Joshua was so amazed & excited to be out of the hospital and when we got home, he pointed to our house and said “Ahh?” It was so cute. He immediately wanted to get down and WALK over to pet our cat. Yep, our just 48 hours ago very sick little boy is walking all over now!
Anyways, Joshua has a doctor appointment with our family dr tomorrow afternoon and then we’ll go over what she wants us to do in regards to his inhaler, etc. Right now, we’re to give him albuteral doses every 4 hours throughout the night and up until we see the doctor.
I am just so thankful to be home and have my family all together again. Thank you all for all the prayers and for those of you who helped out with offering to watch our kids or just praying & encouraging us, we are so grateful!
I’ll try to post more tomorrow, but right now I plan to go cuddle with my hubby on the couch for the first time in days and then go to bed early and get some rest!
