… of my original planned c-section. It’s amazing to think that our precious little boy has been with us for 2 weeks now!
Sorry for the lack of updates – we’ve been quite busy as I’m sure you all understand! Nate took 2 weeks off work and today is his first day back. Thankfully I’m not alone – my dear mother-in-law is here until Friday to help out and visit. She got here late Saturday night and has been such an incredible help and blessing. She’s making me stay off my feet and she’s been cleaning and cooking and doing laundry – I am so thankful for her! And seriously how many wives can say they are so thankful for their mother-in-laws? I am truly very blessed!
Luke is doing quite well. He’s a very laid back, easy going baby, and such an absolute sweetheart. I am still nursing and aside from a mild case of thrush, it’s going pretty well. Luke’s weight gain has been slow but steady. Today he is up to 7 lb 8.5 oz, so while not quite up to his birth weight of 7 lb 13 oz, he is making progress – about an ounce a day. And I’m thankful that we have such a great family doctor who understands that sometimes breastfed babies gain slower and that’s ok! Emily gained slowly too (I nursed/pumped for her until she was 5-6 months) but was quite healthy.
Luke is sleeping really well (hopefully we won’t have a bad night now that I’ve said that, lol!) The last two nights, we put him in our new Fisher Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper (one of the best baby products ever invented by the way – I wish I had had it with my other babies!) and he’s slept a 5.5 hour stretch each night! Amazing for a 2 week old baby, and especially for one who’s technically not even supposed to be here yet (he’s just 39 weeks gestation now!)
I am doing ok – I would be doing very well except that I have a cold/cough and am completely exhausted. The kids caught a cold/fever at the end of last week and thankfully got over it quickly, but I wasn’t so lucky to ward it off – I think my body was just too weak from the months of exhaustion + recovering from surgery + being anemic + limited sleep. And unfortunately I can’t take a whole lot because I’m nursing so I’m coughing/sneezing and rather just feeling ‘blah.’ But again, sweet Mom is taking very good care of me and the kids and that is helping so much. I don’t know what I’d do without her now that Nate has gone back to work.
