How can I not feel incredibly blessed looking at these 4 small people that – for now – belong to me?! I truly feel like the luckiest, most blessed mom in the world!
If I had written this on Monday, I would have said we were doing extremely well. And we are, except we’re dealing with the sickies as of yesterday. Poor Emily came down with a fever yesterday morning and it got quite high later that afternoon, but it finally came down and she seemed to be a little better. Today, she is still sick with a fever, body aches, scratchy throat, and cough, but she is definitely better than yesterday. I felt ‘off’ yesterday too so I started taking all the preventative remedies I could and am still ok today. Nate is feeling a bit sick too.
Luke is such a good baby and so sweet. He’s 6 weeks old now and a few days ago weighed in at 10 lb 5 oz. He definitely went through a growth spurt about 10 days ago! He’s very laid back and happy. He only cries if he needs something and when he’s not sleeping, he’s content to look around with big wide eyes and stare at this big crazy new world around him. He loves to stare at all of us too. I still haven’t seen any more real smiles since that ‘first smile’ a couple weeks ago, but I did see a partial smile this morning when he was staring at the living room ceiling fan. (Which was the recipient of Joshua’s first smile, by the way – at least this time, ceiling fan was #2 after Mom!)
I am just so happy that Luke is happy. After Joshua, I appreciate anew how easy-going my first 2 babies were and now Luke! Luke reminds me a lot of Nathan as a baby.
I have pretty much weaned Luke and he is doing great on formula. We use Gerber (formerly Nestle) Good Start Protect Plus and he is perfectly fine with it. He doesn’t spit up much (except for the last two nights, he soaked me, but that was my fault because I was tired and didn’t get enough good burps from him) – another nice bonus after Joshua!
I am doing much better since beginning to wean Luke. Within a couple days of cutting back on nursing sessions, I began to slowly get more energy. I still have quite a ways to go (and of course now fighting off an illness doesn’t help) but I’ve had no more dizzy spells for a week now and am beginning to feel more like myself. I’ve started keeping up with the house, laundry, and cooking. Last week was the first week in a very long time where I washed all the laundry, folded it, and put it all away within 2 days! My normal routine is to wash all laundry on Thursday, fold it all that night, and put it away the next morning! While it seems so trivial to most people I’m sure, this was huge for me and it felt so good!
On Monday, I even did my 1 mile exercising program! I was pretty tired when it was done, but it felt great. It was also fun to be active with my kids again – Nathan, Emily, & Joshua did it along with me and it was so cute. Joshua’s version was so funny. I wish I could have gotten a video. I didn’t exercise yesterday or today because I’m too tired and not feeling well, but even if I only do it once this week, that’s a big step in the right direction!
I know this post is rambling a little, but honestly I’m pretty tired and not thinking straight. And I just had to get something up because it’s been too long!
Here’s a few more pictures from the past week:
Here’s some pictures from when I tried to get that “perfect” picture of all 4 kids, which as all of us moms know – doesn’t exist! But I’ve learned to love it because when I look back years from now – this is real life! And I did get the first photo at the top of the post, which I think is pretty adorable!
My little guy is getting bigger! His little legs aren’t so scrawny anymore! The crazy thing is that he’s 6 weeks old and is the same size as Joshua when Joshua was born! (He was 10 lb 7.5oz!)
