It’s been so hot lately I’ve found myself thinking about colder weather and the holiday season. Christmas is one my favorite times of the year. Ask my husband – he’ll tell you how excited I get. I love everything about it – all the yummy cookie baking we do, the beautiful decorations, buying and wrapping gifts, the Christmas tree, all the heavenly holiday scents from eggnog to evergreen, the white winter wonderland outside, celebrating Jesus’ birthday, Christmas cards, and more.
My mom was always big on Christmas tradition. I remember setting up her little hand-painted nativity scene in our bedroom each year and Mom was the one who taught me how to bake cookies. Some of my fondest memories are of rolling and cutting out my grandmother’s sugar cookies and frosting them at Christmas. Such fun! And decorating the Christmas tree was always a special event. Mom would put on some traditional Christmas music and the whole family would set to work on our beautiful live tree.
Now that I have my own family, it’s been wonderful to continue some of those special family traditions, yet create our own for my little ones. Every Christmas Eve, we read the “Night Before Christmas” and set out cookies and milk for Santa. The next morning, we let the kids enjoy their stockings first, but then we have a simple yet special Christmas breakfast and stop to read the story of Jesus’ birth before opening up Christmas presents. I also follow the same Christmas dinner menu Mom did, including ham, green bean casserole, and my grandmother’s recipe for cottage cheese potatoes.
Another Christmas tradition I’ve always enjoyed is giving and receiving Christmas cards. It’s such a wonderful way to connect with loved ones and friends. Starting in the beginning of December, it’s such fun to open my mailbox everyday and see the various greetings that arrive. Each one is a unique surprise. I love arranging all our Christmas cards on the wall in our dining room. I use masking tape so it doesn’t tear off the paint and as more cards arrive, my wall gets more beautiful and seasonal each day.
I also love choosing the Christmas card we are going to send each year. I always try to pick something that reflects who we are as a family and I usually pick photo cards so I can share my children’s picture. For this year, I have discovered Storkie Express, which offers quality Christmas greetings in a wonderful selection. From classic to modern to stylish Christmas cards, Storkie offers hundreds of styles so there is literally something everyone will like. I can be pretty picky about my Christmas cards, but I found several I loved at Storkie, including this beautiful card:
I really liked the iDesign software which allows for easy customization; it’s very easy to use and lets me change all those little details to exactly the way I want them so I end up with my perfect card design. I can even get my cards printed on magnetic cardstock so they can be displayed on the refrigerator as a magnet! Instead of getting frustrated with a lack of options as often happens to me, I can relax and truly enjoy Christmas card shopping at Storkie.com. And if I get busy and realize I’m running late in ordering my holiday cards? No worries – Storkie’s got us covered with their incredibly fast turnaround.
I may have to start a new holiday tradition in our family – creating Christmas cards at Storkie.com!
