We are off bright and early tomorrow morning for upstate New York, in the beautiful Adirondack mountains. My cousin, Julie, is getting married on Saturday and we are so thrilled to be there for her special day.
It’s a 4.5 hour drive, so its not terribly far, but with four young kids, a long drive of any sort it never uneventful. We don’t have a portable DVD player so I pack books for the two older children and little toys for the younger two. We’ve been on much longer drives before (15 hours to North Carolina) and I know we’ll manage, yet a DVD player is still on my wish list!
We have to drive through Vermont too and according to Google Maps, there are still some road closures due to flooding from Tropical Storm Irene a month ago. A section of our usual route is closed, so we’ll have to figure out a detour. Hopefully we won’t get lost on these crazy New England roads.
We’ll be in New York until Sunday night/Monday morning (we’re still TBD on our departure time.) In the meantime, I’m excited to see my dad, my mom, my stepdad Jeff, and my three siblings. I saw my beautiful sister a year ago, but it’s been over 5 years since I saw my brothers! Living in New Hampshire with them in Texas and everyone on strict budgets will do that. And my aunts and uncles and cousins will be there too.
I’m not sure if I will have internet access while we’re there, but even if we do, I’ll likely be due too busy. So I will “see” you all Monday. I do have a couple posts scheduled to go up while I’m gone so please don’t go too far! 🙂
Ooh I almost forgot to mention an important detail. Nate & I are going to the wedding alone sans the kids! My cousin’s wedding is in the evening and it’s a no-children event. Now, I’m totally ok with that, goodness it’s less stress for me without them! And I would much rather people be honest and say nope, we don’t want to deal with throwing-food-at-you, falling-out-of-chairs-and-bumping-their-heads and screeching-at-the-top-of-their-lungs kids than allow it and be resentful. It is after all the bride’s day. But of course my little angels would never act like that. Nope, they would not! They are perfectly behaved, it’s other people’s kids, right?
My aunt found us a reliable babysitter and I am looking forward to getting out. We do occasionally get to go out on date nights now, but I’m excited about this because we will get to dress up. And there will be food and dancing later and even an open bar. Now, for the record, neither of us are regular “drinkers” but we do occasionally enjoy a small cocktail (me) or beer (Nate.) At home. This time, we will be able to enjoy something small out. I can’t remember the last time that happened. Anyways I’m excited. Can you tell?
I’m rambling now. This should be a short but hopefully sweet trip. If you could keep us in your prayers as we travel, that would be much appreciated. I hope to bring back some wonderful tales and photos to share with you all!
