Munchkin is a brand that most all of us know, love, and trust. I certainly do! They have all the little things you need, and many of the big ones too! Their products range from bath time essentials, to toys, to safety gear, to feeding necessities, to cleaning tools, to nursery must-haves. If you need or want it, chances are, Munchkin has it!
Samuel was given the honor of testing out Munchkin’s new product, the Light My Way Portable Owl Nightlight as well as the Childproofing Kit.
The Munchkin Portable Owl Nightlight is adorable!! This little nightlight is such a cute idea. It is super lightweight, so it is easy for a fellow even as young as Samuel to tote around. And BONUS! It is hardy, too. As I was carrying Samuel to bed two nights ago, he was holding his owl light by the easy-to-grip handle on the top, and as any 13 month old will, he decided to test gravity for the one millionth time and purposely dropped the light on the tile floor. I was afraid it might have cracked at the very least, but upon inspection, it was completely unharmed! I also love that the Munchkin Portable Owl Nightlight contains a cool touch LED, so there is no worry that it will get overheated and hot to the touch. This light has a small button on the bottom for turning it off and on, and it also has a 20-minute timer built in so that if you leave it on, it will automatically shut off after 20 minutes. Even though it is rated for toddlers 2 years and older, this is perfect for Samuel. He loves it!
Munchkin also makes a great variety of safety and childproofing equipment. I have found that no matter how much you childproof, there is always something else you need to make safe for baby. One of our biggest problems lately has been the fact that Samuel loves to shut doors. So he goes around the house shutting every door he can, often times unintentionally barricading himself into a room. So I tried coming up with inventive ways to keep him from doing that, and I’ve tried everything from wedging stuffed animals under doors to putting broom handles through the crack between the door and the door frame. Of course, none of this actually works as Samuel simply moves it and then shuts the door anyway. Imagine my excitement when I learned that there are actually door stoppers for this very purpose! (I know, you’re probably laughing at me!) Needless to say, I was thrilled to get a Safety Kit from Munchkin that included a Dual-Purpose Door Stopper. I put that puppy to use as soon as I could get the box open!
This Munchkin door stopper is made of a very durable rubber and does not mark up the door or the door frame. And it is completely fool-proof as you just slide it on at whatever height you prefer. As you can see, Samuel is trying his hardest to get that door shut, but with no luck. 🙂 It can also be used to stop the door by wedging it under the door, between the bottom of the door and the floor. However, our doors sit too high off the floor to use it that way. But it doesn’t matter because it works perfectly this way too! I will be getting more of these, to be sure!
Something else I was excited to try in the Safety Kit were the Soft Impact Corner Cushions. Samuel is a new walker and still a bit unsteady on his feet. So there is always the chance that he will trip and come crashing down as he is walking by a piece of furniture with sharp corners. I decided to put these corners on the coffee table in our living room, since it is the perfect height for Samuel to hit it when he falls. The instructions said to wash the corners in soap and water and then completely dry them before use. So I did that, then I carefully applied the pre-cut two-sided tape that came with them. Once I had the tape on, I firmly pressed them onto the corners. It was really easy!
As you can see, they look a bit funny and do stick out quite a bit. At first I was worried that Samuel would be able to grip them and pull them off. He certainly tried, but didn’t succeed. They are firmly in place. We have not tested their actual purpose yet as Samuel hasn’t tripped near the coffee table yet, but I feel assured that if he does hit one of the corners, he won’t suffer much damage. 🙂
The final product in the MunchkinSafety Kit that we have tested are the Plug Covers. There isn’t much explaining needed here. You pop these guys into any unused outlets to keep little ones from sticking things into an electrical outlet that don’t belong there. I had already child proofed most of our outlets, but I did lack a few, so I was happy to get a few more so I could finish up the job.
As usual, Samuel watched me carefully as I inserted them into the outlets, and then he tested them out! Of course, they work great. They are even hard for ME to get back out, so I know Samuel won’t be able to do it.
I really love the quality of Munchkin products and will certainly be a return user!
