I have very girly girls. They love tutus, necklaces, bracelets, tiaras….and they especially love to have their fingernails and toenails painted. We have an entire collection of nail polish so that they are able to match any outfit at any time.
However, I have a really hard time getting my girls to wear shoes. Why? They want to show off their pretty toe nail polish, and if I make them wear shoes no one can see their toes. I’m serious…..this has been a discussion since I started letting them paint their nails last year. They would go barefoot all year if I would let them, all for the sake of pretty toes.
I was super excited to review the Jac-Jac Bobbi-Toads sneakers with Sophie. Have you heard of Bobbi-Toads? They are an absolutely adorable sneaker line, and each shoe has 5 *toes* to paint with nail polish! Can you believe it?! Sophie was ecstatic when I told her that not only was she going to get some darling new sneakers, but that she would be able to paint the toes too! She haunted our mail box for a few days and when the package arrived she could hardly wait for me to get them out of the box. This is a first – usually I can’t get this girl to wear sneakers!
The Bobbi-Toads sneakers are brightly colored and look very durable. The sole is thick with a nice cushion and very flexible. Since my girls are always on the run a flexible sole is the first thing that I look for in a sneaker! I chose the velcro closures so that Sophie would be able to get the sneakers on and off herself, but Bobbi-Toads do have tie options available as well. The velcro strips are thick and hold securely so I don’t have to worry about Sophie running out of the sneakers. I was perfectly happy to keep the toes clean and white….but Sophie couldn’t WAIT to paint them.
We ended up painting them pink and purple. On the Bobbi-Toads website it states that you can use any non-toxic nail polish, so we used an Insta-Dry polish from Sally Hansen. The polish went on quite neatly and dried instantly. I made Sophie wait 2 minutes before running around in the sneakers, but after 3 days of running on the lawn and in the mulch at the playground the polish is still looking brand new.
When you want to change a color, you simply use nail polish remover to remove the color and start over. The pink was a little dark, so I ended up working a little bit harder to remove the color, but after some elbow grease the color came off. I would suggest that if you are going to use a darker color that you put a base coat of clear on first, and then the darker color for ease of removal.
You can purchase Bobbi-Polish and Bobbi-Polish Remover from the Bobbi-Toads site, but we did not receive those products for review. I’m not sure if the Bobbi-Polish would come off easier from the sneakers, or if the Bobbi-Polish Remover would work better than the nail polish remover we used.
Bobbi-Toads are available in little girls sizes 11-13 and big girl sizes 1-6.
