Our pets are just as much a part of our family as the people are. Dogs, especially, are always there for us, even when we have a bad day and the rest of our family members can’t get away fast enough! There’s a reason they’re our best friends.
Probably just like your pooch, our cocker spaniel, Bailey, is always in the middle of things. Whether it’s dropping Josh off to kindergarten or a walk in the woods, Bailey is right there. He follows me everywhere; I call him my shadow. (Even right now, he’s lying under my feet at my desk.)
And while sometimes, I trip over him while I’m cooking dinner, I love having him there. When he was at the vet last week for his neuter surgery, I couldn’t focus or get anything done. It felt so silly, but I needed my Bailey there. Without him, my day wasn’t the same.
Bailey’s pretty special to me. Just like I’m sure your dog is to you.
Even when he’s giving me bruises from constantly banging into my legs with his cone of shame. Yes, poor Bailey. (We are counting down the days until we can take it off!)
Thankfully, we’re able to bring Bailey with us most of the time, including our “vacations” which usually mean a long drive to visit out-of-state family. And there’s been a couple times where my sister has watched Bailey for us.
But what happens when we can’t bring Bailey along and my sister can’t watch him? Do we put him in a kennel? I’ll be honest – the thought of leaving my boy in even the most recommended kennel is not appealing. Not only would he be separated from his family, but it would be such a strange environment – so different from his normal life – that I imagine it would be pretty stressful for him. And I would worry the whole time we’d be gone.
I’m not the only one who’s not keen on kennels. And luckily a brilliant team came up with a fantastic alternative. It’s called DogVacay.
DogVacay is the kennel alternative for your dog. It’s an animal-loving community of almost 20,000 pet sitters around the country. This means a place where your dog will get individual attention in a real loving home environment with a responsible pet sitter. No cages or kennels with lots of other dogs begging for attention. Any other doggy pals already live there! These are real people with real homes.
DogVacay pet sitters have been carefully screened and they’ll treat your dog like a member of their family. Each sitter is required to send daily photo updates to you so you can keep tabs on your best pal. Your dog is covered by the DogVacay guarantee and there’s free pet insurance too. Plus, all pet sitters have to maintain a five star rating so your dog will get the very best!
How does DogVacay work?
Simply hop over to their site, DogVacay, and enter your zipcode. You’ll see a list of pet sitters in your area and you can choose from there.
I was skeptical that I’d find any DogVacay pet sitters in my small town, remote area of New Hampshire. But to my surprise, there were multiple local pet sitters, one as close at the next town over. If there’s DogVacay pet sitters around me, chances are very good they’re by you too. There’s almost 20,000 vetted and insured pet sitters part of DogVacay!
You’ll see details about the pet sitter, their home, their yard, their own dogs, etc. Questions? Just email them. Once you find the ideal DogVacay spot for your pooch, you can schedule a “meet and greet” with the sitter and then book your reservation and pay online. Did I mention that DogVacay is usually cheaper than kennels? Um, yep!
Basically, your dog will get his/her own little vacation while you’re enjoying yours. What’s not to love?
If you’re a dog lover, it’s easy to become a DogVacay host. It’s a fantastic way to earn extra money with flexible hours. Because you can do it in your own home! Many folks who have used and loved PetVacay for their dogs become hosts.
Simply create a free profile, set your rates (yep, that’s up to you, the pet sitter!), decide which dogs to take and when, and let DogVacay work out the rest.
If my home wasn’t so chaotic (with young children still), I wouldn’t hesitate to sign up as a host. It’s something I would love to do. But I’ll probably wait another year or two until, Luke (who is three), is slightly more sane. Just in keeping with the 5 star rating and all. You know.
But you? If you’re a pet lover, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a little money and enjoy some belly scratching on new furry friends!
Check out DogVacay; give both yourself and your dog a fantastic vacation you both deserve!
