It’s been 5 whole days since I posted. I didn’t mean to go that long (I am determined to keep a regular blog going here.) I guess I’ve just been busy. A good busy though. 😉
Let’s see, I last posted on Friday.
On Saturday, we did things around the house. Nate took a bunch of trash to the dump, Nathan played outside, we set up the kids’ pool (can you believe we’re just now setting it up in August! It really hasn’t been hot enough until now with the exception of only a couple days!) I tried desperately to keep the mud out of my house (from Nathan’s wet feet) but finally gave up until after he went to bed. Nate & I had a sort of fight. He’s been working so much lately and I miss him. I’m ok with him working so much, I’m used to it, but I just need a little attention when he is home. Usually I talk, he listens, and we’re fine. I think for the most part I’m pretty good about not going on forever and bugging him. Sure I have my moments, but I do try to be thoughtful. But the past couple days he has ignored me almost every time I tried to tell him something (he says otherwise, but what else can you think when he walks out of the room or starts watching tv!?!) So I was telling Nate that I was frustrated (he is pretty much my only adult interaction I get on a regular basis aside from church) and I thought we were still talking when he went up to bed! I was so mad so we went to bed mad at each other. I told him that I wasn’t going to go to church with my attitude – I knew I was being selfish. So none of us went to church on Sunday.
No church. Nate & I finally talked things over, apologized to each other, & felt better. Nathan kept asking about going to church. I was so happy that he likes church so much! We read Bible together and prayed, so it was better than nothing. Then we decided we needed some family time and so we went up to Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH. There’s a really nice gondola ride up to the top of the mountain and then once you get up there, the view is beautiful. You can see Mt Washington (the highest elevation in the east) and everything! They also have some glacial caves that you can explore. Unfortunately there were a ton of people and the bugs were really bad (nasty black flies!) but aside from that we had a great time.
After that, we drove down the Kancamangus highway and that was beautiful. It goes along the Pemigewasett River (sp?) which also actually goes right near our house. There’s a lot of neat swimming spots along the way and we thought about stopping, but again it was so crowded. At every pull-off, there was cars. So we drove down and then back. It was still a beautiful view and fun to see. I’ve never been down there before, but Nate has many times as a kid and he has fond memories.
So we drove back to Lincoln and stopped at this very cute ice cream store, called “Udderly Delicious.” They had some truly delicious homemade ice cream. I had Reeses Pieces which of course I shared with Emily (not the Reeses, just the vanilla ice cream.) She absolutely loved it. Oh funny story about that – so we’re at the counter getting our ice cream. Nate ordered Nathan chocolate chip with sprinkles in a cup. So the lady gives it to Nate who gives it to Nathan. I’m not joking you – not 10 seconds later, plop! Nathan tipped the cup too far and the whole thing of ice cream fell onto the floor! He VERY quickly said “Oh no! I’m sorry. It’s ok!” picked up the ice cream with his hand and put it back in his cup! I said “No way is he eating that! Get him another one!” So Nate did and the very nice girl didn’t charge us for the second cup. Can you believe that? Typical Nathan! Lol! It was so funny!
Back to the “grind” again for Nate and back to a typical week with Daddy working lots of hours for me & the kids. Once again Nate tells me he plans on working 60 hours so he worked about 14 hours today. I don’t know how he does it! We figured that I get on average about 20 more hours of sleep Mon-Fri than he does. I average 8-9 hours a night, while he averages about 5! Crazy, huh?!
I spent Monday cleaning. I vacuumed the upstairs, did all the laundry, mopped the stairs, vacuumed the entire downstairs (yes I vacuum my wood floors with the attachment, I hate sweeping – I think vacuuming is more efficient anyways.) I also cleaned the kitchen & mopped that floor too. I hate our kitchen floor. No more how hard I scrub it, it just seems grimy and dirty to me. Plus the color is such an off brown/beige color that it’s very hard to tell if one of the dogs has had an accident, so I sometimes find myself stepping in a puddle. Which is very aggravating!
More basic clean up, pick up, etc. (I am always picking up after the kids and the dogs now too. ) It seems in no time at all, my perfectly picked up and neat living room can be full of scattered toys, books, all sorts of things! I literally vacuum at least once a day now too. I guess I’m just becoming more anal about things as I get older!
In the afternoon, Abby had an appointment with the vet to get her puppy shot series. I decided to bring Teddy too because I had figured that (hopefully ) the appointment would be quick, seeing as it was just for the vaccination, not an exam. And he loves to go out with us and is so sad (& grumpy) too when we leave him behind. So we get there and I told Nathan over & over that he is charge of Teddy’s leash. Nathan said “Ok.” Of course there’s a guy with a big dog in the parking lot and Teddy has to start barking like crazy and pull. Nathan held onto the leash, but he doesn’t pull back, he just lets Teddy (this little 7 lb dog!) pull him around. So they’re going toward this big dog, my hands are full with carrying Emily, the diaper bag, and Abby who is squirming and by this time quite nervous with all the commotion. Somehow, (I’m still not sure how!) I managed to grab the leash from Nathan & pull Teddy back. It didn’t help that the big dog’s owner wasn’t really controlling his dog either! His dog wasn’t mean or growling, but he was pulling towards Teddy and I’d rather not risk it if you ask me! So we finally get to the door and Nathan can’t figure out how to PUSH the door in, he keeps PULLING the door. So I have to somehow open the door, again not sure how I managed it! LOL!
Inside wasn’t too bad. Teddy was excited when a lady & her two kids came in with their pet guinea pig (his name was “Winnipig” isn’t that cute?!) And then of course another lady comes in with her large dalmation, who thankfully was very calm. But at least at this point I’m sitting down with the diaper bag next to me, Abby sitting under the chair, and me holding Emily. Nathan was wandering around but being good. They finally call us back and the vet tech gives Abby some peanut butter to eat while she got her shot. It worked very well – Abby didn’t even flinch. Then Nathan is going “Peanut butter! Yum!” and looking longingly at the jar of peanut butter. So the vet tech laughs and asks if he can have some on a popsicle stick. Sure why not!?! LOL. So we finish, I’m paying and Teddy manages to sneak past the gate set up to go see the large Rottweiler laying behind the front desk. Thankfully the dog was good.
And that was a very GOOD visit to the vet! LOL
Today – Wednesday:
Wow, is it really Wednesday already! Gee, time goes fast! Nate is planning on working late tonight, so I have to be very determined and not let myself get tempted to snack this evening! (I am usually pretty good when he’s around, but when I’m home alone in the evening – well with the kids upstairs sleeping of course – its a different story!)
Today started out a little icky. It was raining and both dogs refused to go out in the rain. So one of them (I thought it was Abby but now I’m not so sure) went #2 on the porch and peed. I don’t really care too much, just please not in my house. (Speaking of which Abby has been having QUITE a few accidents lately. Teddy’s acted up a few times and had a couple accidents of his own. So it’s hard to say who did what! Either way I hate those messes in my house. But it’s part of the puppy years so what can you do?! )
Anyways, needless to say I’ve had two somewhat grumpy dogs (more Teddy than Abby) and several accidents today. *sigh* I try to stay on top of it but they’re both so stubborn. Today I took Abby out, she wandered around for a while, I thought she had gone but obviously she hadn’t because not 5 minutes after we were inside I found a puddle!
Emily’s been rather grumpy today. I think she might be teething again. I don’t know.
Nathan is behaving, just a bit hyper. He’s really talking a LOT more. He’s been answering more “wh” questions which is a HUGE improvement for him. I asked him “WHere Abby was earlier?” and he said “Upstairs. And she went poopies too!” Which she had, lovely, right? But I was so happy that he was answering me so accurately that I really didn’t mind too much!
The other day, I had sent him to time out and I asked him “WHat he did wrong?” He answered me correctly! Again I was really thrilled. It’s wonderful to see him making such progress!
Well got to go!
