We probably have about 1.5-2 feet of snow on the ground, with an additional minimum of 8″ today alone and it’s still coming down pretty heavy. Today is one of those beautiful quiet snow days where you just stay home and want to curl up with a cup of hot cocoa, a blanket, and good book. And maybe a movie in the evening. (Not that I’ve actually had a chance to do any of that, but one can imagine right?)
Here’s a few pictures from our Winter Wonderland:
A view of part of our backyard – that fence is 3 feet high:
The road out front:
The road & our van in our driveway:
The snowbanks along the road in front of our house – a good 4-5 feet high:
Backyard fence & gate – the gate is about 4′ tall and that lump in the front is all you can see of one of my flower barrels :

I have to say I truly do love the snow. I love the peaceful feeling that comes with the soft blanketing of cold. It is cold but at this point, we’re all used to it. Just yesterday, Nathan said “Mom, it’s warm out, I don’t need to wear my gloves!” (It was 18 degrees out.) And as for the snow? Well no, it’s not really safe to drive in at this point – the roads are pretty bad. They don’t do a lot of plowing when it’s coming down this heavy and it’s going to continue to for quite some time, really what’s the point? That’s why I went out to the store yesterday just to get a couple of things. Nate is still away, he might be coming home tomorrow night but at this point, we’re not sure. I think he’s going to hire the neighbor boy to come shovel our driveway – it’s not a large area to shovel, but I really can’t/shouldn’t do it while pregnant and I probably will have to drive down to pick Nate up from the airport, so we do need it done!
The kids are still sick, but they’re improving. Little bit by little bit. I hate coughs/colds because they do seem to linger on for a while, especially for Emily. She’s been much better today – still whiny, but not quite as trouble-making. And best of all, she let me get a good night’s sleep so I’m feeling much better able to handle everything today. I can’t say that the house is perfectly neat, actually, the living room is pretty messy & so is Emily’s room, but I’ll tackle those later today or tomorrow. I needed to take it somewhat-easy today after yesterday! I did school with Nathan & basic chores. And I made a cake with the kids today and they enjoyed that. They have been asking me to make cake for a few days so we made a chocolate cake with strawberry frosting and sprinkles – entirely their choices.
