Here is my post from 4 days ago…sorry it took so long to get up!
I have been so bad about blogging lately & I apologize. I hope to get more regular about it soon.
I am just so B-U-S-Y!
Life as a mom to three children definitely keeps me on my toes, but I love it. I have always been one who needs to keep busy otherwise I get depressed and anxious. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s always easy or that I always love it. Or that I don’t feel like I’m going to go insane from time to time. (Trust me, that happens more often than I like to admit.) But life is good and I’m continually remind of how blessed I am and I am so thankful for that.
I went to the outlet stores on Friday night and again on Saturday. A friend gave me a 30% off coupon for Gap/Old Navy and I took advantage of it. I have everything Nathan needs for this fall & winter now except for a couple of nice shirts for church. (And a winter coat, snowsuit, boots, etc. too. But those last things won’t be in the stores for another couple months, so I’m not worried about that now.) I got some fantastic deals – Old Navy jeans for Nathan for $7, even a couple Gap sweatshirts for Nate & myself at $14-15 each – just to name a couple. I love shopping for clothes for the kids and I am so glad we have outlet stores so close to us! It was fun.
On Saturday afternoon, we went to a birthday party for some friends. It was so much fun to relax with great friends and let the kids run around & play. It was a beautiful perfect day for an outdoor kids’ party too. Nathan played so hard that when we put him to bed that night, he was asleep within minutes, which never happens.
On Sunday, we went to church and then ran some errands. One of the grocery stores had some fantastic deals and I walked away with $400 worth of groceries, paying only $60. I always love those kind of shopping trips.
That evening, I went out with two wonderful friends – one is my closest friend and the other is quickly becoming a very dear friend as well, even though I’ve only known her for a short while. We have so much in common – and not just our day to day lives as stay at home moms to 2-3 kids each or the fact that we go to the same church.
It was so refreshing to get away. As much as we all love & adore our families, sometimes you just need to get away and recharge. We kept exclaiming how strange it was to use purses, to just get out of the car and go without unloading children. Or how quiet it was in the car with just adult conversation!
We went to the theater and saw “The Proposal” with Sandra Bullock (which was really great and funny) and then went out for ice cream (really more time to talk!) I came home with such a big smile. I haven’t had a girls’ night out in ages and ages. Way too long. That was mostly because I didn’t have really good girlfriends who I have so much in common with. But now I do and I am so thankful for them!
Our husbands were really good about staying home and watching our children. At the end of our little “getaway,” one of my friends’ husbands called and as soon as she opened her phone, we could hear screaming from her 8 month old in the background. We couldn’t help laughing. Life.
I did really well with leaving Joshua for 5 hours. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he’s my 3rd. I know he’s fine, Nate is a wonderful dad, and I’m just a phone call & 1/2 hour away if I am needed. Of course it helps that I’m not nursing. But I wasn’t needed and everything went well. I came home to all 3 kids peacefully asleep in bed and Nate had even picked up my living room and done the dishes.
We’ve agreed (my friends & I) that we need to do this on a monthly basis. Of course whether that actually happens is another story, but we should at least try to do it more often for all of our sanity. I don’t know what our husbands will say to that, but it benefits our families to have us take a “breather” once in awhile because in turn we can be better wives and mothers. On Monday, I was amazed at how patient I was with some of the things the kids did that normally would have really frustrated me.
Joshua is doing great. He is sleeping 8-10 hours in a row at night now. He’s done that every night for the past 10 days. His usual routine is to go down for the night between 7 and 8 pm and sleep until 5 or 6 am. Then he’ll go back to sleep for a couple more hours until we get up for the day around 8.
He’s waking up more and observing his surroundings. He is smiling more often. His favorite thing to smile at is the ceiling fan/light in our living room. That darn thing gets more smiles than I do! I’m not too surprised as Nathan was the same way – Nathan used to smile at a picture on our wall more often than at me. I guess fans and pictures are more fun than Mom. 😉
Joshua is losing his baby hair now. He had that cute little “old man” hair on the back of his head, but it started falling out about a week ago. In fact, he was almost bald on one side of the back of his head, with hair still on the other side. It looked really funny. I had planned to take a picture of it but the other patch of hair fell out before I got around to it.
I can’t believe he’s 7 weeks old now!
In other family news, Emily is officially potty training and doing pretty well too. She usually has a couple accidents a day – mainly because I get busy and forget to remind her when she’s outside playing. No accidents so far today though! I bought a bunch of different Disney Princess/Tinkerbell/Hello Kitty underwear for her and she loves wearing those. She went poop in her underwear on Monday, which was not fun to clean up. She didn’t seem to mind too much until I told her she made “kitty” sad. That concerned her very much and she’s gone #2 in her potty twice now since then. I still have her wearing diapers at night and pull-ups during the day for naptime and if we go out.
Nate is in Alabama for work right now but he’ll be getting home late tonight. Then tomorrow we are going to Story Land! The weather looks good and Nate is able to get off work, so Lord willing, we will have a fantastic day away. We are all very excited, myself included. It’s such a fun place to go and we all really enjoy it. This will be the first year where Emily will really get it and I’m looking forward to seeing her reactions to everything. She is very excited to see the “Princess Castle” and meet Cinderella.
>>>>Well it’s officially been 24 hours since I started this post and I think I need to finish up or it will never get posted.<<<<<
Thanks for sticking with me and reading!
As usual, I’ll finish with a couple photos of my littlest one:
Can you believe it’s August? We start school on the 24th!
