I’m exhausted right now. I’ve had a busy couple of days homeschooling, spring cleaning, cooking, and the usual chores. As a mom, do you ever feel like things are being “undone” faster than you can “do” them? Today was one of those days for me.
Yesterday I took the covers off the couch cushions to wash them (thank goodness they zip on/off – it was much easier to throw them in the washer than to go over each of them by hand!) and left them out to air dry. I replaced them this morning and was very happy at how much nicer they looked. In the process of doing school with Nathan, tending to Luke, and a few other things, Joshua managed to get orange marker all over his hands (thanks to Emily leaving her crayon/marker box out) and smudged it on my freshly washed couch cushion! It wasn’t horrible and I cleaned it off with a baby wipe, but it was one of those moments where you go “really?!” We’ve had this couch for over a year and he gets marker on it for the first time literally within 1/2 hour of when I clean it! Not that I haven’t cleaned the couch sooner – I am always scrubbing at this or that spot, but this was the first time to really clean it.
If that was the only thing done to my newly cleaned couch, it wouldn’t be worth writing about. But it wasn’t.
This afternoon, I had Nathan feed Joshua some yogurt – I was trying to avoid the obvious mess that would have occurred if Joshua did it himself. I was busy taking all the shelves out of my refrigerator and cleaning every little nook & cranny with my cleaning gloves on or I would have done it myself. I thought Nathan did a pretty good job of feeding Joshua without a huge mess, but I wasn’t watching very closely. Nathan must have dripped yogurt on Joshua’s shirt because when I finished my refrigerator a little later and went into the living room, there were white yogurt spots all over the same poor couch cushion. With Joshua sitting right on top of it grinning very happily. I said “Oh my GOODNESS, Joshua! What have you done?!” and he slid off smearing more yogurt all over the cushion this time.
Unbelievable. Then again, with young children, it’s totally believable, but you know what I mean.
Okay, time for a few pictures.
Meet Shadow, our new kitten:
Curled up with Nate and Luke (who was sound asleep):
Nate & Abby, who is very excited about Shadow and can’t wait for kitty to feel more at home and become her new best bud:
Joshua adores Shadow and is always giving him kisses and hugs. We are working on teaching him to be gentle, but he’s been pretty good. Shadow is so good with him and has never scratched him – we are so lucky to have such a good kitten!
I’ll write more about Shadow later – right now, he is jumping all over me wanting some love and making it very hard to type! Lol.
