My dad went home to Ohio today. The kids are grumpy and tired and missing him. I’m missing him. We had a wonderful 2+ week visit, which, as usual, seemed to fly by much too quickly. We went to Story Land, Joshua discovered his new favorite person, and we had so much fun.
Nate & my dad worked on some home improvement projects. I have new living room & dining room windows now – something I am thrilled about because our house is old and the old windows were so drafty! This should really cut down on our heating bill this winter. They also installed a new door for our kitchen to barn entry way. The “barn” is not a barn at all, but an unheated addition built onto our house many years ago (before we owned the house) and we use it for storage. When we moved in, the realtor & previous owners called the addition the “barn” and it just stuck. The old door didn’t even have a proper door frame and we had to keep it closed with an eye-hook. In the bitter winters of New Hampshire, that door let in so much cold air, we had to literally hang up a blanket and put towels or a draft-keeper at the base to keep the worst of it away. Which was such an eyesore and I hated. Even then it was still cold. Now I have a new door with nice insulation around it and a real frame and proper doorknob and lock and everything. And it closes and stays shut! (What a novel idea!) It looks so much better. Once we complete the finishing touches – filling in the nail holes with spackle, sanding, & painting it – I’ll post pictures. It’s really great.
Thank you all for bearing with me while I was busy with my dad visiting. Normally I do most of my blogging in the evenings when the kids are in bed and I can blog (somewhat) uninterrupted. When my dad was here, we watched movies and spent time together in the evenings. I did some blogging, but not as much as usual – at least not my usual rambling posts. Then again, maybe that was a break for you all…. heehee!
So you may have noticed some more activity around here lately. I’ve added Rafflecopter as a fantastic new giveaway entry widget and I have some exciting new giveaways (like our Kindle giveaway – if you haven’t already, you’ve got to check it out!) going on and coming up.
That’s not all! I’m switching to WordPress and will be getting a new blog design within the next couple of weeks – something I am very excited about! Don’t worry – one of the first things I plan on doing, once Musings From a Stay At Home Mom is on WordPress, is to install the add-on that allows you to post comments as quickly as you need to – none of that ridiculously annoying “You are posting too fast” pauses here!
I really love my current blog design; my fabulous designer – April, from A Mommy’s Blog Design Studio, did such a fantastic job. But when I made the decision to move to WordPress, I also decided I wanted enough things changed that it would be best to do a re-design. Not too different though – I’m still me! And once more, I have to root for April – if you are looking for a new blogger design – I can’t say enough about April – she is truly awesome!
Right now, I’m sitting on my living room couch with my pug snoring at my feet, the kids are upstairs in bed (not necessarily asleep – I hear Joshua talking & Nathan’s probably reading), and I’ve got a Netflix movie on pause while I finish up this post.
I’m quite annoyed because I was looking forward to watching The Bachelorette tonight (yes, I admit I’m a hopeless addict,) which I usually tivo and watch on Tuesday, only to realize there was no Bachelorette last night due to the holiday. If I had thought about it, I would have realized that of course that would happen. But I didn’t. And I was really looking forward to that tonight. With Dad gone, and Nate away until late, (he has class and won’t be home until 10:30 at the earliest.) I’m lonely. And darn it, the Bachelorette would have been perfect for tonight. *sigh* Oh well. Such is life.
What are you doing tonight?
