We just love Nuby in our house! This is the second time we’ve had the privileged of reviewing several items from Nuby. We were so pleased with Nuby’s products last time, I had no doubt we would be pleased again!
This time around we tested out three different straw sippy cups, the step stool, and the booster seat.
Samuel started with straw sippy cups very early on. But it was a real challenge to find smaller sippy cups with straws. I had no idea Nuby had such a great variety of cups with straws!! They have shorter ones with handles for little ones who might have a bit of trouble holding a cup, taller ones with no handles for sippy cup veterans, insulated ones, sporty ones…. You name it, they have it! I picked out three different straw sippys for Samuel to test out, and he was happy to accommodate. We tried the No Spill Flip N’ Sip first because it looked like the easiest one to use. It is small and has two easy to grip handles. This cup also has a top that you can flip forward to protect the straw and keep it clean when the cup is not in use. The sipper straw is very soft and flexible, making it comfortable for teething babies with sore gums. Samuel handled this cup like a pro! He could even use it with one hand while holding food in the other!
Another cup we tried is the Super Straw Easy Grip. This cup is taller, but very narrow in the middle which makes it easy for little hands to grip. However, because there are no handles, Samuel has to use both hands. The straw features Nuby’s Touch-Flo™ valve that only allows fluid to flow with the sucking action of your little one. When your child is not sucking, the valve closes, ensuring a leak-resistant cup! Samuel did very well with this cup too!
The final sippy cup Samuel tried was the Flip-It Easy Grip. While this is a straw cup, the straw is not soft and flexible like the straws on the previous two cups. So, I was interested to see how Samuel would respond to it. He examined it for a minute and then put it right to use with no issues! This cup features a flip-top cap that helps keep the straw clean when not in use. It is also supposed to be no-spill, however, Samuel knocked it over on the floor and water came streaming out of the straw. I picked it up and held it at different angles over the sink, and I’m not sure I would call this cup “no-spill.” The others seem much better at containing liquid than this one does.
When he eats, Samuel usually uses a seat that attaches to the side of the table. It has worked really well, but I know he will grow too heavy for it sooner than later. So I was excited to have the chance to try out Nuby’s Booster Seat! With the help of my husband, we strapped it onto a chair to test it out. Unfortunately, the directions for putting the straps on are scant, at best. It took us a couple of trys to find a configuration that worked. It would be nice if the instructions were more specific about where each strap is supposed to go. I also thought the straps that secure the child into the seat were oddly placed. They actually come out of the bottom of the seat, rather than the back. This means the child will be sitting on them. I think there is potential for that to be a little less comfortable, and while it did seem secure, I can’t help but wonder if it would be MORE secure if they came out of the back of the chair at waist level. But, moving forward, once we had the seat securely strapped to the chair, we put Samuel in it…..and he wanted nothing to do with it! Honestly, I think he was just crabby that day. But he did not want to sit in that chair! However, he was very pleased to use it later on as seating on the floor for watching a show on tv! Once I put it on the floor, he was absolutely thrilled to get in and out of it by himself! What a funny little guy….. I have no doubt that we will be able to use the Booster Seat successfully, and when that time comes, I will be confident in it’s security and functionality. It is a sturdy, well-built chair, and once you get the straps configured correctly (or as best as you can!), it feels very secure and tight. But in the meantime, I will just let Samuel use it on the floor. 🙂
The final product we tested was by far Samuel’s favorite, the Nuby Step Up Stool! This handy little step stool has a No-Slip Top and No Skid Base that I love! We have another stool that Samuel uses and it always seems unsteady. He has either fallen off of it or tipped it over while standing on it several times. But the Nuby Step Up Stool is wonderful! Samuel is very secure on it, and he loves to use it! It even holds up to 800 pounds, which means I can use it, and so can hubby, with absolutely no worries! Some day I envision Samuel using this stool at the sink in the bathroom, but for right now, he LOVES using it in front of the window so he can watch our dogs outside. Or the birds. Or the trees. Or even the dirt. 🙂 This kiddo just loves to look outside. And the Nuby Step Up Stool gives him the perfect boost he needs to be able to do just that!
