Christmas is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I love the sights, smells, and tastes of the season. I also love seeing handmade ornaments on my Christmas tree. My kids love making fun Christmas crafts, and these popsicle stick ornaments could not be easier! In fact, my daughter came up with the design for the Christmas tree all on her own.
What you’ll need to make popsicle stick ornaments:
We used pre-colored popsicle sticks to keep things easier so we didn’t have to deal with paint. You can choose to either use a hot glue gun to make the project go faster, or regular school glue to make it safer for younger kids. We have a low-heat glue gun, so that’s what we used (even my 3 year old!).
We made three separate ornament designs (and my 3 year old also made a crazy design, which is only special to me). Here is how you can recreate our popsicle stick ornaments:
For the Santa Face ornament you will need:
- 1 red popsicle stick
- 1 yellow popsicle stick
- 1 big white pom pom
- 2 googly eyes
- 1 small white pom pom
- Red ribbon
Cut the red popsicle stick into thirds (we rounded our edges) and the yellow in half. Arrange a triangle shape like in the picture with the two yellow pieces and one of the red pieces to make Santa’s face.
Glue the remaining two red pieces together into a point to make Santa’s hat.
Glue the large white pom pom to the bottom of the triangle to make his beard. Add the small pom pom to the top of the red triangle to finish his hat.
Glue two googly eyes to the yellow popsicle sticks to finish his face.
Glue a red ribbon to the back and it’s ready to hang!
For the Snowflake ornament you will need:
Stack the four popsicle sticks into a snowflake shape. Glue the sticks together.
Place a bit of glue along each of the ends of the snowflake. Sprinkle the glue with white glitter.
Glue a star-shaped button into the center of the snowflake.
Glue a ribbon to the back of the snowflake to make it ready to hang.
For the Christmas Tree ornament you will need:
Cut one green popsicle stick in half. Make a triangle from two full popsicle sticks and of the green half pieces. Glue together.
Cut the other green popsicle sticks with scissors and glue them inside the green stick frame as shown in the picture.
Cut each of the red popsicle sticks into thirds. Glue five of the pieces to the bottom of the tree to make the Christmas tree stand.
Cut the yellow stick into quarters. Cut two quarters in half lengthwise. Glue three of the pieces to the top of the tree to make a star.
Glue a red ribbon to the back to hang.
I could not believe how easy these were to make and how cute they turned out. My kids cannot wait to hang their ornaments on our tree this year. They were so proud of there creations and can hardly contain their excitement until Christmas!
