Looking for an easy stocking stuffer, teacher gift, or just a natural way to pamper your own lips this winter? Then you won’t want to miss this EASY DIY Peppermint Lip Balm recipe!

You only need 3 ingredients and about 10 minutes to make this homemade lip balm. Yes, truly!

Using just three all-natural ingredients (including essential oils), this DIY Peppermint Lip Balm only takes about 10 minutes to make! Make it for yourself or as a perfect homemade gift!

You can make a large batch all at once so you’ll have plenty of DIY Peppermint Lip Balms to give away this holiday season. Don’t forget to stash a couple aside for yourself too!

What You’ll Need to make DIY Peppermint Lip Balm:

  • 1 oz of beeswax – I ordered this kind and used one of the 1 oz bars (it comes with 5)
  • 3 heaping Tbsp coconut oil
  • 20 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • Containers to hold your lip balm (try these tin containers, plastic containers or lip balm tubes)

Begin by adding the beeswax and coconut oil into a sauce pan.  Heat on low on your stove top until both are completely melted.

Then pour your melted mixture into a pourable container with a spout.  I love my glass Pyrex measuring cup for this!

Add 20 drops of peppermint essential oil to your mixture and stir it in.  You can vary this a bit – add 5 more if you want yours to have a stronger peppermint scent and have the lip balm tingle a bit more on your lips when you apply it.  This isn’t very tingly on your lips – just a bit when you first put it on.

Your DIY Peppermint Lip Balm is done! See how easy?

Now just pour it into your waiting containers. If you have really small containers, or are nervous about pouring without making a mess, you could get some glass droppers, but it’s really not that messy.

You could tie a ribbon around a candy peppermint and wrap that around the lip balm as a cute gift wrapping idea!

I’ll be making extra of this homemade peppermint lip balm to give as gifts to my daughters’ teachers, bus driver, and friends at my mom’s group this year!  Of course I’ll stick one or two in my own purse as well.

This is very temperature sensitive. You could add more coconut oil to make it softer, but coconut oils melting temp is 74F. So the beeswax makes it so it won’t melt at just a bit warmer than room temp. If you just stick it in your pocket, it will get much softer with your body heat.

Could I melt the beeswax and oil in the microwave instead of on the stove?

TYes, you can melt the beeswax and coconut oil in the microwave. Just use 30 seconds increments at a time , stirring often to mix the two ingredients together. Make sure your wax and coconut oil isn’t really hot when you add the Peppermint essential oil, it will make the peppermint oil lose some of the healing properties. Pour into your containers of your choice.

I”m not sure what Aquafor is – other than a lotion brand. Tell me more. 🙂

Could I use jojoba oil instead of coconut oil? I’ve never worked with jojoba oil but I’d like to try and was just wondering the difference.

I personally have not tried jojoba oil either. Is the melting point of it low like coconut oil so it will go on your lips smoothly? Give it a try and come back and let us know!

Could this be changed up with lemon EO or lavender EO for spring/summer? Or would the amount need to be changed?

yes – you can use any oil you want! The amount can probably be the same. The more oils you add, the stronger the scent – so just keep that in mind.

Is there anything you can use besides beeswax that works like beeswax?

You could also use cocoa butter – both the cocoa butter and beeswax harden up the lip balm. Beeswax is the go to first though b/c it doesnt’ have scent. Cocoa butter though will turn this into “chocolate peppermint” – which isn’t a bad thing if you want to try! 🙂
