Floam Makes A Fun Father’s Day Gift!

I was looking for a fun craft Sophie and I could do together for Father’s Day. She loves getting crafty and could sit and create for hours.  I was pleased when we were sent some Floam to create a Father’s Day pencil cup!!

Floam is a molding compound that you can re-use over and over again. Each color comes in an air tight package designed to keep the Floam from drying out.  The pink Floam was very wet and needed to dry for about 20 minutes before we could use it. The other colors {green, yellow and blue} were ready to go as soon as we opened the package.

Floam is super fun and Sophie loved playing with it! She especially liked that she could use her scissors to cut out lines and letters.  We also used cookie cutters to make some fun shapes.  The Floam was very easy to mold onto another object {see below} and could be flattened out and then rolled into a ball to start creating all over again.  Sophie has been playing with the Floam non stop for 3 days. She loves it – and I love that there is little mess and it’s easy to clean up!

Here’s how to make an awesome Father’s Day pencil cup:

Cut off the bottom of a 1.5 or 2 liter soda bottle using scissors and cover the raw edge with tape. {you could also use a tin can}

Roll out your main color or Floam into a large rectangle large enough to cover the outside of the bottle.

Wrap the Floam around the bottle and pinch the top edge tightly together around the rim. {Sophie wanted the bottom covered as well – this is optional}

Roll out a thin strip of Floam to cover the top edge to the bottle.

Flatten out additional colors of Floam to add decoration to your pencil cup!

Let dry overnight to harden – and you have a one of a kind Father’s Day gift!

I can’t wait to see what Sophie will create next!

    I love this stuff! Your daughter did an awesome job on the pencil holder. 🙂 I have 2 neices ages 4 and 8. They love to do crafts so I know they’d love this stuff. I’ve seen it in crafts stores but wasn’t sure what it was. Now I know I can get some. I love doing crafts with them. With Father’s Day coming up I’m going to have to go get some of it for sure. Thanks for sharing and you have a very artistic daughter.
    God Bless.

    My grandchildren had this before but they were not this creative and there was 9 of them together so they ended up mixing colors, etc. This turned out cute!
