Luke’s fever went up to 101 again around 5 pm last night, so I took him to the ER. They admitted him to the peds floor & he’s had a whole round of awful testing – blood draw, RSV swab (negative), catheter, and a spinal tap. My poor baby. His blood work showed a low white blood cell count, so they are thinking it’s probably just a virus (gee I could have told you that – it’s what everyone else has! But I know they have to be extra cautious with a baby so young…) or possibly something worse, but very unlikely. He also had to get an IV and is getting every 6 hours IV antibiotics for “just in case.” They said we’ll be here at least 48 hours… 🙁
The resident just came in and ‘evaluated’ Luke. She said his “LP” (lumbar puncture aka spinal tap) came back clean.
Please pray for my little guy. Please pray for my whole family. Once again we’re trying to figure out what to do with the other kids and of course they’re all sick, so that extremely limits our options. Nate has an important meeting this afternoon and I really need him to bring me a few things. Thankfully, I packed some things thinking we’d be staying a little while, but I didnt’ figure on 48 hours or more. I am so thankful I remembered my laptop though – this is so nice. And my wonderful husband remembered to pack the charger which of course I would have walked off without.
Sorry, another really rambly post – I am just so tired and can’t think straight right now. I got all of 2.5 hours of very interrupted sleep last night.
I know my baby will be ok. The Lord is here. He’s with my other sick children too. But once again I’m reminded of how exhausting hospital life can be (aka residents coming in multiple times to recheck my poor baby’s ear for the 5th time today! Ahhhh! I know they’re learning but at some point I’m going to put my foot down and say no more.)
Please pray for my poor husband too. Once again, he’s left trying to juggle caring for 3 children (sick too!) by himself and trying to do schoolwork AND of course do regular work. All on very little to no sleep. I’m worried about him and I can’t do anything about it, except pray.
Oh yes – Luke’s IV came out (his fever went back up around 4 am and he was sweaty and the tape came off) and so he’ll need another one put in around 10 am so he can get his next round of antibiotics. 🙁
