All of my children love to do art and make crafts, so when a box of fun new text-UR Foam crafts by Fibre-Craft arrived at our house they could not wait to start crafting. We spent a happy afternoon making all sorts of textured and 3-D projects. My children loved the cool textures (wavy, dotty, scaly, stripes, bumpy, terry cloth) and vivid colors of the text-UR foam pieces, and I bet yours will too.
Text-UR foam packages include really cool peel and stick, stackable 3D space-urs, which are used to stick the foam pieces together to create 3D art. My favorite thing about that? No glue needed! More creativity with less mess- I’d much rather sweep up the paper backing than try to scrape glue off the kitchen table any day! Another plus is that the projects actually stay together. We’ve had such trouble in the past with glue not holding our foam crafts together- the stickyback foam pieces and 3-D space-urs completely alleviate that problem! In fact, my 4 year old snuck her “BeBe” (Bee Stand-Up Kit) into bed and slept all night with it– and it survived!
Whether your family enjoys making something specific and following directions or if you prefer open-ended craftiness to create your own projects, text-UR Foam has a package to suite your needs. Text-UR Foam’s website has great project ideas for the foam sheet sets, if you are idea challenged like me. I like that the text-UR foam sheet sets also come with a set of 3D space-urs just like the individual projects. I always regret allowing my children to craft unsupervised when glue is involved, but I wouldn’t hesitate to allow them to craft with any of the text-UR foam products while I am busy doing other things.
My girls really enjoyed making the stand-up kits, which include pre-cut and pre-punched pieces, 3-D space-urs and directions for making each project. I think these sets would be the perfect choice for crafting with a group of children or to send home as party favors. I did not need to physically help my four-year-old with her project, though I did talk her through the steps. My eight-year-old was able to complete her turtle without any help or direction from me at all.
My 6-year-old son’s favorite project was the bug activity kit. I really liked that the project was guided, yet open-ended. The bug bodies were already cut out for him, but it was up to him to decided how to decorate each one. These kits would also be great for small groups, since they have plenty of supplies to make 6 small projects. My son did not want to share though; he loved making the critters so much that he made all 6 in one sitting!
My family really enjoyed text-UR Foam’s fun, affordable, and non-messy craft products! All of text-UR Foam’s products are affordably priced from $2.99 to $8.99 and can be found at Michaels, Joann’s, Meijer and A.C. Moore.
