It is always amazing to me to see the creativity and imagination that comes from children. Their minds are so open and innocent and what they come up with can be inspiring. I always try to encourage my children’s imagination. Art is a great way to do so and I love to see their creations.
My oldest son, Nathan, particularly loves to draw. Me? I can’t draw at all. My extent of artistry is stick people. It’s really quite pathetic. So to see Nathan drawing trees and houses and volcanoes and doing a nice job at it is fun for me.
uDraw has launched a nationwide contest to encourage children to explore artistry with their uDraw Your City Art Contest. Young artists from ages 6 to 17 can use a uDraw GameTablet to create a drawing of their favorite thing about their city, town, or community. If you don’t have a uDraw GameTablet, you can submit a regular paper drawing too. It can be a local landmark, fun in the park with friends, a favorite community person – anything that is special to your child about their community.
The grand prize winner of this contest will receive a uDraw, a $10,000 cash prize that can be put toward the winner’s future college education, and an additional $10,000 to be donated to the art program of the winner’s school of choice. Artwork can be submitted through October 31st.
Our town is actually a city because it used to be a busy mill town almost a 100 years ago. Now it is smaller but there is rich history here. One of my favorite spots in our town is the lovely trail along one of the beautiful rushing rivers that flows near our home. It is so peaceful and always reminds me to stop and relax amidst the busyness of life.
My son’s favorite part of our town is a small park near the dam. It’s a fun spot for the kids to run and play, enjoy the small playground, and bring bikes and scooters. It’s where Nathan learned to ride his bicycle too.
I think it’s wonderful that THQ is sponsoring such a great contest. I hope you will consider having your children enter. There’s nothing to lose; the kids have fun creating a piece of art, you get to find out their opinion of your community, and there’s a chance to win a fantastic prize.
Nathan is going to submit his drawing. Here it is:
