Peanut-butter flavored Rice Krispies Treats “Nests” are a fun twist kids will love, perfect for Easter or springtime.

Ingredients

Scale

3 Tbsp butter or margarine
1/2 cup peanut butter (or use sunbutter if you need nut-free)
1 package (about 10 oz) marshmallows
6 cups of Rice Krispies
coconut & green food coloring (optional)
candy eggs (M&Ms, Robin Eggs, etc.)

Instructions

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Then add the peanut butter and stir until it’s also melted.

Reduce the heat to medium-low, then add the bag of marshmallows and stir gently. Cook and stir until the marshmallows are partially melted. Remove from the heat BEFORE they melt completely. Continue stirring OFF-HEAT until the marshmallows are fully melted. (This will help keep your krispy treats soft and chewy without becoming hard.)

Pour in the Rice Krispies and mix everything together. If it becomes too thick to stir with a spoon, butter your clean hands and use your hands to finish combining, making sure the rice krispies are coated with the marshmallow-peanut butter mixture.

Shape the rice krispies treats mixture into “nests” and place on a parchment paper-covered or waxed paper covered baking sheet.

For the toppings, stir a couple drops of green food coloring into the coconut flakes. Use this as “grass” to put in the nests.

Use candy eggs or whatever you prefer for additional fun toppings.
