This easy recipe for Easter Rice Krispie Treats Peanut Butter “Nests” are just as fun to make as they are to eat. Whether for Easter, spring or any time of the year, these peanut-butter flavored treats are a fun twist on the classic recipe.
My kids love Rice Krispie treats and I do too because they are truly so easy and fun to make. Not to mention yummy!
Recently, I wanted to make a special Rice Krispies treat recipe for Easter with the kids. But I couldn’t find quite what I was looking for. And of course that’s when we get creative and our kitchen adventures can turn out yummy and fun or… maybe not so much!
Luckily, these Easter Rice Krispie Treats Peanut Butter “Nests” turned out great. By simply adding peanut butter to the classic recipe and shaping them into bird nests, we had a fun variation in taste AND creativity.
These Rice Krispie Easter Treats Peanut Butter Nests are simple to make and so much fun; my children loved them.
One of the best parts of this fun recipe is that you can let your kids have fun and tweak it to your (their) taste and preference. For example, if your kids aren’t a fan of the green coconut “grass” in the nest, you can leave it out or try something completely different.
Easter Rice Krispie Treats Peanut Butter “Nests”
- 3 Tbsp butter or margarine
- 1/2 cup peanut butter (or use sun butter if you need nut-free)
- 1 package (about 10 oz) marshmallows
- 6 cups of Rice Krispies
- coconut & green food coloring (optional)
- candy eggs (M&Ms, Robin Eggs, etc.)
First, add 3 tablespoons of butter to a large saucepan and melt it. Then add 1/2 cup of peanut butter.
Stir until the peanut butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
Add the bag of marshmallows and stir…
Remove from the heat before the marshmallows are completely melted. (Overheating the marshmallows will make them tough, which equals hard Rice Krispies treats.)
Keep stirring – off the stove – until the marshmallows are melted and the mixture is smooth.
Pour in 6 cups of Rice Krispies and mix it up.
This might be a little tricky because the peanut butter rice Krispies treat mixture can be very sticky. Tip: grease your hands with butter and use your hands if needed. Or get your kids involved (they’ll love this part of making their Easter Rice Krispies Treats!)
Shape your Rice Krispies Treats into “nests”.
Add whatever toppings you desire.
To make the green grass, add a couple drops of green dye to shredded coconut.
Place the coconut in your crispy nests.
Add the candy and you’re done! For the “eggs”, we used egg-shaped M&M’s. You could also use jelly beans, those yummy “Robin Eggs” or whatever you have on hand.
Enjoy your Easter Rice Krispie Treats Peanut Butter “Nests”.
Note: if you want to store it for later, place it in a sealed container. The treats may become hard if left out in the air.
Easter Rice Krispie Treats Peanut Butter “Nests”
Peanut-butter flavored Rice Krispies Treats “Nests” are a fun twist kids will love, perfect for Easter or springtime.
- Prep Time: 10
- Cook Time: 10
- Total Time: 20
- Yield: 8-10 treats 1x
3 Tbsp butter or margarine
1/2 cup peanut butter (or use sunbutter if you need nut-free)
1 package (about 10 oz) marshmallows
6 cups of Rice Krispies
coconut & green food coloring (optional)
candy eggs (M&Ms, Robin Eggs, etc.)
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Then add the peanut butter and stir until it’s also melted.
Reduce the heat to medium-low, then add the bag of marshmallows and stir gently. Cook and stir until the marshmallows are partially melted. Remove from the heat BEFORE they melt completely. Continue stirring OFF-HEAT until the marshmallows are fully melted. (This will help keep your krispy treats soft and chewy without becoming hard.)
Pour in the Rice Krispies and mix everything together. If it becomes too thick to stir with a spoon, butter your clean hands and use your hands to finish combining, making sure the rice krispies are coated with the marshmallow-peanut butter mixture.
Shape the rice krispies treats mixture into “nests” and place on a parchment paper-covered or waxed paper covered baking sheet.
For the toppings, stir a couple drops of green food coloring into the coconut flakes. Use this as “grass” to put in the nests.
Use candy eggs or whatever you prefer for additional fun toppings.
