Easter is right around the corner and we’ve been busy making Easter crafts with the kids and for them. These Pom Pom Chicks and Bunnies will make adorable Easter basket prizes and when combined with the Tic Tac Toe Garden which doubles as a storage box they are a great activity for keeping little ones busy! Follow our step by step tutorial for making your own DIY Pom Pom Chicks and Bunnies with Tic Tac Toe Garden.
DIY Pom Pom Chicks and Bunnies with Tic Tac Toe Garden
Supplies:
For the chicks and bunnies
- yarn
- scissors
- craft foam
- puff paint
- hot glue gun and glue
For the Tic Tac Toe Garden Box
- a plastic wipe container
- tape
- cupcake wrappers
Instructions:
Begin by cutting a piece of yarn approximately 4″ long. Slip this piece of yarn between your first two fingers. Next start wrapping the yarn around the same two fingers. You’ll want to wrap the yarn around tightly and about 50 times. The more times you wrap around, the more full the pom pom will be.
Cut the yarn when you’ve wrapped the it around enough times. Carefully pull the loose piece of yarn from between your fingers up and loosely tie it around the center of the wrapped yarn.
Slip the yarn off your fingers and tighten the tie. You’ll want to pull this as tight as possible and secure it with a double knot.
Next you will slip the scissors through the loops and carefully cut them. This will create the pom pom.
Fluff the yarn and use the scissors to trim the ends for a uniform shape.
Repeat until you have 4 pom poms for chicks and 4 more for bunnies.
After all your pom poms are made begin cutting the craft foam to make beaks, ears, and noses. I used orange, white, and pink.
I started with small orange rectangles and medium sized white rectangles. Fold the orange rectangles in half lengthwise and cut in at an angle from each side. This makes a perfect little open beak. Hot glue these in place in the center of each pom pom chick.
For the ears fold the white craft foam in half width wise, creating a long and skinny rectangle. Cut a curve from the bottom open corner to the top folded corner to make a pointed ear. Glue two ears onto each pom pom bunny.
For the bunny noses I used a small hole punch but you could cut small circles or ovals from the pink foam. Glue these in place in the center of each bunny.
To finish the pom pom chicks and bunnies add two small dots of puff paint to each for eyes.
Set the pom poms aside until the paint is completely dry.
While the paint is drying you can create the tic tac toe board and storage box. I always have empty baby wipe containers on hand and they are a durable storage box for so many things! I decorated the box to look like a garden by adding green tape for grass. I opened colorful cupcake wrappers and twisted them to create bright flowers. The green tape was then used for stems and to tape the flowers to the container.
On the bottom of the wipe box I taped a tic tac toe board using the same green tape and a contrasting yellow tape for the lines.
When the bottom of the box isn’t in use for a game of tic tac toe the pom pom chicks and bunnies store neatly inside and the lid easily snaps back on!
This makes a perfect activity for little ones and it’s even great for those busy days filled with lots of travel!

How cute are these? I have pom pom makers (one of my favorite craft supplies), so I know I could whip these up pretty quickly with my kiddos.
