How to Make Easter Bunny Cupcakes
First, bake your cupcakes according to your recipe or the box directions, then let them cool.
My daughter, Emily, requested chocolate cupcakes. That’s all I had in the cupboard for cake mixes anyways, so chocolate it is for us – but you can make whatever kind you want.
You can do chocolate, vanilla, or even carrot cake (wouldn’t that be perfect?!)
Now, you’ll need to color the frosting green. I use AmeriColor Gel Paste Food Color – the colors are amazing!
You can frost the cupcakes with a cake decorating tip (I used Wilton Tip 233.) You can buy the cake decorating tips online or in the store in the baking aisle.
Don’t have the cake tip? No worries. You can just grab a knife and frost simply. It’s up to you.
Your Easter Bunny cupcakes will be cute whatever you do, so don’t worry – brightly colored marshmallow bunnies have a way of doing that. Just have fun with your kids!
Once you’ve frosted a cupcake, add a bunny on the top.
Tip: You don’t want to wait too long because the bunny won’t stick as well if the frosting has already dried.
The kids love doing this part!
And that’s it! You have Easter Bunny cupcakes!
FAQs
Can I use store-bought cupcakes?
Absolutely! If you’re short on time, you can use pre-made cupcakes and focus on the fun part—decorating them!
What’s the best frosting for decorating?
A thick buttercream frosting works best. It holds its shape well and gives the grass a more fluffy appearance. But, if you dislike buttercream (or don’t have it on hand), you can use a cream cheese frosting as well!
Can I make these cupcakes ahead of time?
Yes! You can bake the cupcakes a day in advance and store them in an airtight container. Wait to decorate them until just before serving for the best look.
How do I store these cupcakes?
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about 2 days. Keep them in a cool, dry place to prevent the icing from melting.
Variations
Want to change it up? Here are a few different things to try!
- Chick Cupcakes: Use chick peeps rather than bunnies. Then, rather than use green icing, you can stick with chocolate or vanilla to serve as a “nest.”
- Chocolate Bunny Cupcakes: Try chocolate frosting instead of vanilla for a rich, indulgent twist. You won’t be able to color the chocolate as easily, but you could top the frosting with green sprinkles to create the “grass!”
- Carrot + Bunny Cupcakes: Top cupcakes with crushed Oreo “dirt,” then add a small fondant carrot along with the bunny for a fun spin.
As you can see, there are so many fun ways to make these yummy Easter cupcakes – I hope you give it a try and see for yourself!
