This easy-to-make Chocolate Root Beer Float Cake has all the flavors of your favorite sweet drink in a delicious chocolate cake! This light cake is perfectly flavored with root beer while the creamy butter frosting adds the perfect “foamy’ touch. It’s really no surprise that this chocolate cake is a family favorite recipe!
Doesn’t this root beer float cake sound just decadently delicious? Well, let me tell you – it is. So without further ado, here’s my rendition of this tasty dessert.
Chocolate Root Beer Float Cake
Cake Ingredients:
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
root beer (substitute for the water the box calls for)
Root Beer Float Frosting:
1/3 cup butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons root beer
1 tablespoon vanilla
How to Make Root Beer Float Cake:
Preheat your oven to 350-degrees. Grease and flour two round cake pans and set aside. Prepare the cake mix according to the package (I like Duncan Hines Classic Chocolate), substituting root beer for the water. Then add the vanilla, and beat.
Pour the batter into the pans and cook as per the directions on the box.
Let the cake cool completely.
While the cake cools, mix up the frosting. Beat the softened butter until smooth…
… and then add in 1 cup of powdered sugar, gradually. Beat this really well until nice and smooth. Add the vanilla and the remaining powdered sugar and continue beating until smooth. You can add more root beer or more powdered sugar to get a thicker or thinner consistency as desired.
Frost your chocolate root beer cake.
and then refrigerate for 1 hour before cutting…
I use a bit of wax paper under the edges of the cake so I don’t get frosting on my platter.
Store your Root Beer Cake in the fridge, covered.
Tip: this Root Beer Cake tastes even better the second day as it lets the root beer flavor really set in. (That’s if it lasts that long!)
My children got little nibbles of this cake and adored it. Now, as my regular readers know, most of my baked goods have got some fruit or veggie purees snuck into them, but this one is just sinfully bad… sometimes a momma’s just gotta enjoy something that’s amazing!
