Something spooky is flying this way! Halloween is right around the corner and we are getting ready with some Halloween kid-friendly activities.
With three little kids, my family isn’t quite ready for goblins and zombies yet, so we focus on less-scary things, like creepy crawlers, flying ghosts, and of course fun treats. We recently came up with a fun Halloween activity for kids to do that’s very simple and easy to do. We call it our “Flying Ghosts”.
This easy craft for kids makes spirited spooks that can be blown into the air. One of the best parts is you probably already have everything you need around the house!
What You’ll Need to Make Your Own Flying Ghosts:

Cut out your ghosts out. Little ones need not worry about perfectly cutting out their ghost. It’ll add to the creepy feel!
For our extra-wide straws, we used approximately 3-inch pieces of boba-style straws. I found a multi-color pack at my grocery store. For my three children, we only needed one straw.
Tape the top of the straw to make it air tight by completely covering the top. Next, tape the straw to the back of your ghosts. You’ll want to make sure your straw hides behind the back to keep up the illusion.
Next, place the regular-sized straw inside the extra-wide straw. You’re now ready to send your ghosts flying into the night sky!
Hold your regular-sized straw firmly, allowing the ghost to rest atop your straw freely and blow. The larger your blast of air, the higher your ghost will go.
My girls loved seeing the Flying Ghost craft materialize! My kids had contests to see who could get their flying ghosts higher into the air, and then to see who could shoot them furthest. My toddler turned her Flying Ghost into a puppet and put on a show for us. It’s always fun to see their imaginations at work!
We also love simple activities and crafts that get us from a few supplies to the finished product in just a few minutes. This Flying Ghosts activity does just that!
Not so spooky fun makes it feel like Halloween around here. We will be blasting flying ghosts in the yard and (hopefully) not at our siblings for the next few weeks. No promises there! These Flying Ghosts are a great kid friendly activity for Halloween!
