A green smoothie is a great way to eat a healthier lunch or snack everyday, but what happens when you get tired of drinking your food? Sometimes you just want a change.
This Healthy Green Smoothie Bowl takes the ingredients of a typical green smoothie drink and turns it into a tasty lunch that you can eat with a spoon! With spinach, avocado, coconut flakes, protein powder, and banana, you can choose from a few toppings and know you’ll be eating a delicious healthy lunch.
I love a green smoothie at lunch, because it helps me to stay on a healthy-eating plan every day. If I eat something else, like leftovers from the dinner the night before, I’ve noticed I’m more likely to make unhealthy choices later. I don’t know what it is exactly, but eating a healthy lunch really helps me.
But I’m always cold, especially during the winter. Back in January, I was determined to eat healthy, but every time I’d drink a green smoothie for lunch, it would literally chill me to my CORE! It was probably the frozen fruit I’d use, but I just could not do it anymore!
So I started experimenting with a smoothie alternative and came up with this Healthy Green Smoothie Bowl recipe. I couldn’t think of what on earth to call this at first, but I did some googling and read about smoothie bowls. And this is a Smoothie Bowl if I ever saw one!
I adore this Green Smoothie Bowl recipe because it includes a nice amount of spinach and avocado – two foods I try to eat frequently because there’s so many benefits. And both fit so deliciously into this recipe that I don’t even realize I’m eating them!
The other great thing about this green smoothie bowl is that it takes less than 5 minutes to whip up in a food processor. It’s also easy to double the recipe and save half for the next day, though I do think it tastes the best freshly made. You could even put this green smoothie bowl into a mason jar and take it on-the-go!
Add a few delicious toppings, like walnuts, strawberries, banana slices, and coconut flakes and you’ll have a real treat in your hands. It’s really hard to believe this is such a healthy lunch!
What You’ll Need for this Green Smoothie Bowl:
- ½ avocado
- spinach, one large handful
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 Tbsp coconut flakes
- 2 Tbsp protein powder (I love this pea protein powder)
- 1 Tbsp almond milk
- 1-2 Tbsp hemp hearts, optional
Toppings:
- chopped walnuts
- sliced banana
- coconut flakes
- berries
Put the avocado, spinach, and banana into a food processor and mix until nicely combined.
Scrape the sides, then add the coconut flakes, protein powder, almond milk, and hemp hearts (optional) and mix again.
You can add a little more almond milk if you want to thin it more. I prefer a thicker smoothie bowl myself.
Spoon into a bowl or mason jar.
Add your favorite toppings, grab a spoon, and enjoy your delicious Green Smoothie Bowl lunch!

That looks like a great idea for quick and easy lunch that is actually good for you. We don’t have a food processor but we just purchased a high quality blender so will see if this works in there.

Eating healthy sure looks like a lot of work! Ido love spinach, but I am less sure about the avocado. Maybe once my kids are big and I am just feeding myself I will have to try out some things like this.

I wasn’t an avocado fan until recently, but you can’t really taste it in recipes like this. It simply adds a delightful creamy factor.
Only one of my kids likes avocados, yet all four of them love this smoothie bowl or regular smoothies where I always add avocado because it’s such a healthy food.
Try it, you might be surprised and love it!
