Hey, everyone! My name is Jennifer and I blog over at Engineer Mommy, where I share easy DIY tutorials, delicious recipes, kids’ crafts and more with my audience. Erika is such a talented woman and I’m a huge fan of her blog, so I’m super excited to be here today to share with you all an easy tutorial for a DIY Ceramic Tray!
With the holidays fast approaching, it is definitely time to start thinking about easy gift ideas. And my favorite kind of homemade gifts are ones that look quite chic and sophisticated but are actually fairly inexpensive. This DIY Ceramic Tray fits those criteria perfectly! Costing less than $10, this gift definitely won’t break the bank. However, don’t let the price fool you- the finished product is actually quite elegant and useful!
Wanna see a sneak peek? Of course you do- we all love sneak peeks!
Ok, let’s get to the tutorial now, shall we?
DIY Ceramic Tray: Gift Idea
- One rectangular ceramic tile (mine was 10″x14″, but I’ve also seen 6″x12″ tiles at the home improvement store)
- Two drawer handles
- Krazy Glue
- Four protective felt circles
So the steps to complete this project are really rather straightforward and simple. First, adhere the four protective felt circles on the underside of your ceramic tile. The protective felt circles I used were intended to protect hardwood floors from furniture, and I’ve also seen a similar product made out of rubber. You could even cut small circles out of felt sheets and adhere those to the bottom of your tile. I like the protective felt circles I used because they have a little height to them (maybe 1/2″) so the finished tray sits up above the table a bit.
The next step is to adhere the handles to the top of the tray. Make sure they are lined up at equal distances from the edges. I used several drops of Krazy Glue on the handles and stuck them onto the ceramic tile. Then I let it sit undisturbed overnight so that the glue can cure fully.
And that’s it! Now you have a handmade gift that you can give to someone on your shopping list. Best part: it is an inexpensive project! Here is what I spent on the supplies.
- One Ceramic tile: $2.50
- Two Handles: $5.00
- Krazy Glue (I had this already, but I’ve seen it at the dollar store!)
- Felt Circles (I had this already, but I’ve seen it at the dollar store!)
So even if you didn’t have any of the supplies, you can complete this project for less than $10! Fabulous! Now I just have to figure out how many more to make! Big decisions! 🙂
It has been a pleasure hanging out here today with you all. I hope you all liked this chic DIY Ceramic Tray.
