Corner Cupboard Organization in the Kitchen

When it comes to organizing your kitchen, there’s many areas and things to consider. Corner cupboards, especially, can be tricky to figure out how to organize well; these cupboards are deeper with funny angles so it’s easy for things to disappear far in the back.

Today, I’ll show you how I organized my corner cupboard recently and hopefully inspire you with ideas for your own!

That tricky corner cupboard in your kitchen can be tough to organize! Here's a few simple ideas for making the most of that space without any fancy organizing tricks or purchases required! this idea now...

One thing I want to mention – if you’ve tried organizing that tricky corner cupboard before and it hasn’t stayed that way, that’s okay. One of the best things with organizing is that often, something will kinda work and you just have to tweak it to make it work even better!

Here’s what my cupboard looked like before:

I had actually started organizing before I took this photo, so it was more cluttered than you see… It wasn’t too terrible because I had organized a couple months ago, but it was definitely in need of a do-over.

One quick note: I limited this project to things I already had around the house; I didn’t buy anything.

The first thing I did was remove everything from my corner cupboard and wipe down the shelves. When Nate installed our kitchen cupboards a little less than a year ago, I put clear contact paper over the shelves to make cleaning easier and it definitely helps.

Next I decided what items had to stay in the corner cupboard and what could be moved elsewhere. I relocated quite a few items which freed up a lot of space.

For me, the top shelf of organizing a corner cupboard is the most challenging because it’s so impossible to see the back of it. I’m 5’8″ and still had to climb on a chair!

I decided to move my homemade recipe binder to the top shelf because I wanted it off my counter and it fit perfectly. I love that it’s too big to get shoved into the back and lost too.

I also wanted to store lose recipe sheets that I haven’t moved into my recipe binder yet. So I made my own “magazine file box” out of a regular cut-down cardboard box and decorated contact paper. That tricky corner cupboard in your kitchen can be tough to organize! My corner cupboard top shelf is also where I store my tall avocado oil bottle (the only upper cupboard it fits in) and an extra jar of honey (something I try to keep up high and away from my sticky-fingered children.)

Organizing the bottom shelf was just as challenging in its own way.

I found a couple medium-sized plastic bins in my attic that were perfect for this shelf. One bin holds vitamin and protein powders I use regularly in my morning smoothie bowls and the other bin stores natural sweeteners – honey, maple syrup, and molasses.

These simple little bins make it so much easier to keep things exactly where they belong. And because the honey is stored in a bin, when one of my kids puts it back all sticky, I don’t have to remove everything from the cupboard to wipe it down; the sticky is contained in the bin!

I keep foil, plastic wrap, parchment paper and waxed paper in this cupboard because I use them frequently. They fit on either side of the bins on the lower shelf. At some point, I may get a “wrap rack” but that’s another time.

And that’s how I organized the corner cupboard in my kitchen. I chose to keep it very minimal and easy, which works extremely well.

Your setup is probably different than mine, but I hope this gives you some ideas for organizing your own corner cupboard. It doesn’t have to be a catch-all cupboard where things get lost!

Great organizational tips. My mom has a corner cupboard and so much space is lost that she can’t reach!

We actually have two corner cupboards in our kitchen, one high and one low. I love the ideas you incorporated here, especially those plastic bins.
