It’s pumpkin season. There’s pumpkins in front of the hardware store, pumpkins on my windowsill, jack o’ lanterns grinning from the porch. And best of all there’s pumpkin recipes for just about every type of dish you could want. And I want them all. Just kidding. Maybe.
I can’t get enough pumpkin. In fact, I was the one stalking the shelves in my grocery store for 6 solid weeks before the canned pumpkin actually showed up. And when it did, I eagerly snatched up 8 cans. Oh yes, I love me some pumpkin.
One of my favorite recipes is my Healthy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie.
Say hello to deliciousness.
With a blend of spices, a dash of vanilla extract, and banana and maple syrup as a healthier alternative to sugar, this delicious pumpkin pie smoothie is a great option when your sweet tooth is craving pumpkin goodies.
There’s no crumb crust or topping. I debated adding some, so it would be more pumpkin-pie-ish, but I eventually decided to leave it out and keep the smoothie healthier. As it is, the recipe makes 2 servings, each one is about 100 calories.
This smoothie is beautifully thick. You can drink it from a glass, but you’ll also find yourself reaching for a spoon to scoop out the last remnants from the bottom. It’s that good.
I find it gives me a nice boost too, making this healthy pumpkin pie smoothie the perfect pick-me-up for any time of the day.
Add a scoop of protein powder and you’ll get even more of a boost.
{I love pea protein powder. <<Affiliate link.}
If I’m trying to be super healthy, I’ll cut out the maple syrup (which adds about 25 calories per serving). But it’s the maple syrup that really gives this smoothie it’s pumpkin-pie-like flavor so I don’t cut it too often.
Note: I highly recommend using real maple syrup. The fake stuff just doesn’t cut it. In a pinch, you can substitute honey.
Don’t you just love smoothies? Especially the pumpkin ones. Mmmmm.MMM!

This looks great! However, I hate bananas! Any suggestions for a substitution?

I would try vanilla greek yogurt. It will add a similar touch of sweetness that the banana does. You may need to add a little more maple syrup too. Let me know how it turns out! 🙂
