This recipe for raspberry overnight oats takes less than 5 minutes to prepare and it’s so delicious, you’ll want to make it every day!
What are overnight oats?
Overnight oats have taken the breakfast world by storm, and for good reason. This no-cook method of preparing oats allows you to mix your ingredients the night before so you wake up to a ready-to-eat meal.
Perfect for busy mornings, overnight oats save you precious time and provide a nourishing start to your day.
Not only are overnight oats convenient, but they are also incredibly versatile. You can customize them with different ingredients to suit your taste and dietary needs, which means there’s an overnight oats recipe for literally everyone!
Plus, the nutrient-dense nature of oats keeps you full and energized throughout the morning. Win-win!
Oatmeal is such a filling meal, and one of the best parts is that there are nearly endless options for variety! If you’re not a fan of raspberries, you can substitute just about any other fruit.
My whole family enjoys oatmeal as a healthy breakfast, and now that we’re gluten-free, we simply use gluten-free oats.
Ingredients
This easy recipe is so simple that the kids can even help! Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup quick oats (gluten-free if necessary)
- 1 cup milk or dairy-free substitute (I recommend almond or coconut milk)

Stick it in the refrigerator overnight, give it a stir, and enjoy the next morning!
Another bonus of this Raspberry Overnight Oats recipe? It’s portable! Just grab a spoon and take it on-the-go!
Variations
Even though this raspberry overnight oats recipe is awesome as-is, sometimes it’s nice to change it up a bit! Here are a few variations to try:
- Add chocolate – If you haven’t tried raspberries and chocolate together, you are seriously missing out! Add a tablespoon of mini chocolate chips to this recipe and see what I mean.
- Try different berries – Raspberries are delicious, but why not switch things up and try different berries like blueberries or strawberries? You can even mix different types of berries for a fruit medley. I highly recommend trying this strawberries and cream overnight oats recipe, too.
- Make it tangy – Like a bit of tang (and some extra protein?) Add a few spoonfuls of Greek yogurt to the mix.
- Sprinkle in some nuts – Add some crunch and extra healthy fats by sprinkling in a tablespoon of your favorite chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pecans work great!)
- Top it off – Get creative with your toppings! Add coconut flakes, cacao nibs, granola, or anything else that sounds delicious.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to customizing raspberry overnight oats. Experiment and find your perfect combination! With endless possibilities, you’ll never get bored of this nutritious breakfast option.
Customizing Raspberry Overnight Oats
One of the best things about overnight oats is their versatility. Here are some tips for customizing your raspberry overnight oats to suit different dietary needs and preferences:
Vegan-Friendly
To make a dairy-free version, use plant-based milk such as almond, soy, or oat milk. If you’d like to make it completely vegan, make sure to swap out the honey for maple syrup too.
Gluten-Free
Making this recipe gluten-free is super easy! All you need to do is ensure your oats are certified gluten-free. I highly recommend trying my favorite GF oats—they taste incredible!
Protein-Packed
Boost the protein content by adding a scoop of your favorite protein powder or incorporating nuts and seeds. This is especially beneficial for those needing extra energy and fullness throughout the day.
Low-Sugar Option
If you prefer to avoid sugar, you can skip the added honey and rely on the natural sweetness of the raspberries. You can also add a few drops of stevia or monk fruit extract for a low-calorie sweetening option.
FAQs
Do you eat overnight oats cold or warm?
Typically, overnight oats are enjoyed cold right out of the fridge.
However, if you’re not a fan of cold oats (it took me a little getting used to after years of warm oatmeal), you can easily pop it in the microwave or reheat it on the stove while your coffee is brewing or you make your favorite matcha latte.
Can I use frozen raspberries?
Yes, frozen raspberries work just as well as fresh ones. They may add a bit more moisture to the oats, so you might want to adjust the liquid content slightly. Or, you can let the raspberries thaw before you add them to help reduce the liquid amount.
How long can I store overnight oats?
Overnight oats can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. This means you can prepare a few servings at once and have breakfast ready for several days.
So, there you have it—your new favorite breakfast. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!

Erika, I had no idea this was going to be your website until I saw your profile there! I love your new site. 🙂 Those overnight oats look so amazing. My kids love oatmeal. I need to make this for them them. I know they would love it. It would be a great breakfast for them before school too!
Erika says
Thanks, Jodi!

So glad I found you again! I love your recipes! I’ve made overnight oats many different ways. I really enjoy them with a mix of dried fruit too – the fruit is plump and moist the next morning! We’ve been using and liking cashew milk around here, as yet another dairy free option. Rice, almond and coconut milks have all kind of come and gone for us, and I have to rotate my son’s milk options or he’ll develop a new sensitivity. Thanks for the reminder to try this again! And the little mason jars are just so cute. 😀
Erika says
Hi Sarah! Great to see you here!
Dried fruit is a great idea – I’ll have to try that with my kids.
It’s nice to meet another “dairy free” mom. We’ve just gone dairy free due to at least one of my kids having a dairy allergy. (One confirmed, but I suspect at least 2 others have a sensitivity.) It’s definitely an adventure, but totally worth it to have them be healthier. Thank goodness for options, like almond, coconut, & cashew milk!
Any tips for me?

I like oatmeal, and I like the idea of having it almost make itself overnight. Does the honey serve a purpose other than taste?
Erika says
The honey is just a natural sweetener. You could use regular sugar instead, but I personally prefer honey. 🙂
Tracey says
Can you use frozen raspberries in this recipe?
Erika says
Sure, Tracey!
Dawna says
Curious- you called for 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of oats but then you call for 1/4 cup in each jar then redo the layers 1/4 cup again. Isn’t that two cups of oats and two cups of milk? My math brain is all confused! Lol
Cecilia says
I was thinking the same…
Erika says
Thanks, Dawna and Cecilia, for bringing this to my attention. I’ve fixed the recipe. 🙂

I am trying overnight oats for the first time. Do I need to cover the oats when I put them in the fridge overnight? I have never seen this addressed so I just need the reassurance that I’ll be doing the right thing. Thank you.
Erika says
Hi Jane, yes you will want to cover the oats. I hope you enjoy it!
