If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, this delicious Lavender Matcha Green Tea Latte provides a boost of energy and a calm relaxation with a perfect combination of matcha powder and lavender flowers.
This matcha latte recipe is dairy-free, sugar-free, and Paleo-friendly and takes just a couple minutes to whip up. It’s a guilt-free pleasure you can enjoy on special occasions or as a regular everyday treat.
I’m a big fan of matcha green tea and use it often in recipes. Matcha is a great way to get the benefits of green tea in a more compact form and provides a nice boost of energy beyond the “jolt” you will get from a cup of coffee (or three.)
Plus, matcha has some amazing potential benefits. It’s a good source of antioxidants, has been shown to potentially boost metabolism and increase energy levels, may help boost the immune system and improve focus and concentration and more.
I have used matcha in many forms, from my Matcha Green Tea Energy Bites to Matcha Fudge. My favorite way to enjoy matcha is in a Matcha Latte. (Find my original recipe here. It’s very similar to this recipe here, just without lavender.) For more of my matcha green tea recipes, click here.
When I was in Hawaii last spring for my writing retreat, I visited a lavender shop filled with lavender soap and lotions and lip balm and sachets, all scented with lavender. There was also a little cafe and one of their menu items caught my eye: Lavender Matcha Green Tea Latte.
I had to try it.
I did and it blew me away with how heavenly it tasted. The combination of matcha and real lavender flowers was almost impossibly calming and energizing at the same time. Yet somehow it worked perfectly and I felt a calm increase in energy as I sipped it.
At that time, I just visited Haleakala, a 10,000-foot peak on the island of Maui and was tired from the exertion and low oxygen levels. A lavender matcha latte provided the perfect pick-me-up when I needed it and before I went out zip-lining. I even ordered a second lavender latte for the ride home later.
That lavender matcha latte was so delicious, I knew I had to recreate it at home.
And this is the result. It tastes pretty much identical to the delicious latte I enjoyed in Maui and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do almost every day.
A quick note: if you are looking for a tutorial on how to make a genuine ceremonial matcha latte, you won’t find that here. This Lavender Matcha Green Tea Latte recipe is quick and to the point. No ‘traditional’ methods here.
One of these days, I intend to try the traditional method of matcha latte prep, but for now, I’m too busy for that. With four kids and a full-time job from home now, I need my matcha lattes ready fast.
And thankfully, this recipe is just as quick – or even faster – than what you’d get at a coffee shop. Plus it’s much better for you with no sugar and you will know exactly what ingredients and their quality you are using. Yes, please!
Let’s get down to the recipe.

What You’ll Need:
- a blender or whisk (I prefer a blender because it’s much faster than whisking by hand)
- small fine mesh strainer or larger tea strainer
- your favorite mug
Matcha Latte Ingredients
- 1 cup almond milk (I always use unsweetened almond milk for my matcha lattes.)
- 1/2 tsp matcha green tea (I use this one.)
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 10-15 drops liquid stevia (I use this one) – note you can use more or less sweetener to your taste.*
- 1/8 tsp dried organic lavender flowers (I use this one) – start with 1/8 tsp lavender flowers and if you prefer a stronger lavender (like I do), than move to 1/4 tsp
*You may also choose to use a different natural sweetener, like honey or maple syrup. I personally recommend stevia though as it’s faster with no mess, and blends well. Or you may choose to use no sweetener at all and that’s fine. Sometimes I do that too.
Lately, I’ve been wanting a “treat” and adding a few drops of stevia is a much healthier treat than going to Starbucks for a pricey, sugar-loaded matcha latte, so I do it. 🙂
Pour the almond milk into a blender cup.
Add the matcha, vanilla, stevia, and lavender flowers.
Blend the matcha latte ingredients together.
Heat to your desired temperature, usually just beginning to steam.
Because we don’t have a microwave, I heat my latte over the stove in a saucepan. When it begins to steam, I know it’s ready.
Strain your lavender matcha latte into a mug using the tea strainer. This will remove the lavender flowers. It will catch a little of the foam too, but that’s okay. You can just discard the flowers.
(I couldn’t find my small mesh strainer (the kids put my miscellaneous kitchen items in odd places sometimes when they help put dishes away) so I used a large tea strainer for the photos here. You can use a smaller one too, but a little bigger does make it easier.)
Note: as an alternative way to prepare this lavender matcha latte, you may choose to whisk it gently and let the lavender flowers steep in a tea strainer for 20-30 minutes in the latte. You will need to use more lavender flowers as the flavor is weaker with this method. (I’d recommend 1/2 tsp to 1 cup latte). This takes too long for me, but if you are interested in a different method, you may want to try it.
Your Lavender Matcha Green Tea Latte is ready to enjoy!
Sip your Lavender Matcha Latte and breathe deeply as you enjoy the delicious flavors and even allow yourself to slip into a moment of serenity.
