Benefits Of Cracked Heel Cream Ingredients
The ingredients in this cracked heel cream are effective and affordable. More importantly, each one has its own superpower, of sorts.
- Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer. It also offers antifungal properties and acts as a carrier oil to help distribute the essential oils evenly throughout the foot balm. Coconut oil is semi-solid at room temperature and melts at skin temperature. It also soaks into the skin quickly.
- Raw shea butter is a popular option for cosmetics, thanks to its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids. It’s ultra-moisturizing and can help hydrate skin and reduce inflammation.
- Lavender essential oil is known for its lovely smell, but did you know that it also can calm your skin while exfoliating rough patches?
- Tea tree essential oil is antifungal and has antibacterial properties, making it the perfect way to relieve your feet.

- 3/4 cup coconut oil

- 20 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
- Slow cooker liner
- 8oz wide mouth mason jar for storage
How To Make This Easy Cracked Heel Cream
You’re going to be amazed at how easy it is to make this essential oil coconut oil for feet recipe! Here’s the process.
Step 1
To start making your heel cream, put your slow cooker liner in place. Then go ahead and add 3/4 cup of coconut oil to the slow cooker.
Step 2
Next, add 1/2 cup of raw shea butter.
Step 3
Now it’s time to add the essential oils to your cracked heel cream. I recommend adding about 20 drops each of lavender and tea tree (melaleuca) essential oils.
Step 4
Turn your crockpot on low and let all of the ingredients warm up and melt. You probably don’t need more than 2 hours of melting time.
Step 5
Once it is all melted, then pour the contents of the crockpot plastic liner into a glass container for storage. I chose a short, wide glass jar.
Step 6
Allow the cream to sit at room temperature for a few hours until it’s solid. Or put it in the freezer to speed up the cooling process.
DIY Heel Cream Notes
I highly recommend using a crockpot liner. After I made my Easy Homemade Crockpot Peppermint Lotion, I decided that I’d never attempt to melt butter and oils for lotion-making again without using a crockpot and liner! It is the easiest way to make them and has virtually zero clean-up!
I chose the combination of lavender and tea tree essential oils for this because they’re both therapeutic for skin issues. Lavender is known to heal dry or chapped skin, and it will help it stay hydrated to avoid that dry, cracking skin.
Tea tree oil is anti-inflammatory, easing any redness and avoiding skin infections in cracked skin. It can also help remove dry and dead skin cells on the surface that cause the dry and scaly look on your heels.
Feel free to substitute your favorite essential oils. Peppermint would be another good, soothing, and cooling oil to use in this recipe.
Whatever container you use to store your heel cream, make sure it has a wide enough mouth for your hand to reach the bottom. For example, a regular, tall mason jar would be difficult to reach into the bottom!
How To Use Homemade Cracked Heel Cream
To use this cream, I recommend putting it on your feet each night before bed. I would even cover your feet with socks to ensure the cream soaks into your skin overnight.
If you want to maximize your pampering, I would suggest using a foot spa followed by a pedicure foot file tool or pumice stone on your heels. Then, apply your homemade foot cream.
For the best results, use your cracked heel cream on your feet daily to keep your heels smooth and soft. This will also help prevent your heel pad from drying and cracking.
This homemade coconut oil for feet would make a great homemade gift idea for the special people in your life, including friends and family. In addition, your child’s teacher may appreciate it as a special ‘thank you’ gift!
Softening Heel Cream FAQs
Here are a few questions I commonly see readers ask about making their own homemade foot balm. If you have a question you don’t see answered below, please leave it in the comments!
What causes cracks on heels?
The skin on heels can crack when it becomes thick and dry, increasing pressure under the heel and causing it to split.
Several things can make it worse, including wearing open footwear. And one thing I learned from experience was to avoid harsh soaps and overusing liquids because they just dry skin out more.
Can Vaseline heal cracked heels?
I know that’s something that some people claim, and maybe it even works for some. However, it did not work for me. Instead of nourishing my skin, it just created a goopy mess.
That’s why this coconut oil for feet is so effective! The coconut oil soaks into the skin and moisturizes my feet, while the essential oils work their “magic” to help any current cracks heal and prevent new ones.

I made this and followed the recipe exactly. After 24 hours the mixture had not solidified. So I put it in the fridge. It solidified, so I took it out. After being out for a few hours it’s turning to liquid again. 🤔 Please help!!! How do I get this to stay solid? What did I do wrong?
J says
Coconut oil naturally melts and solidifies. You might be living in a location that is hot enough for the oil to melt. I’ve never tried making the cream, but I’m guessing that it’s the coconut oil that is making it melt. When it goes above a certain temperature, it’ll solidify again. It’s natural for the coconut oil to do that. If it’s just hot during the summer, try keeping in the fridge; it won’t alter the cream – or its qualit(ies) in any way.
Candice says
I read that heat reduces the essential oils properties greatly. Maybe better to put the oils in after cooling to room temperature
Joni says
I thought about the same thing when I looked at this. The flashpoint for Lavender es is 156 degrees and tea tree oil is 134 degrees. If you put these in at higher heats it will greatly reduce their benefits if not make them totally inert.
Maura says
You could for sure wait a bit for the liquid to cool and use a candy thermometer – but you dont’ want to wait until room temperature or your cream will solidify and the oils will not spread throughout the lotion.
ivonne Carmona says
I would like to know if I can add to the mixture like 4 or 5 teaspoons of beeswax, this will make it not to melt. I think I will add it so I don´t have to put the jar in the refrigerator everytime I see it as a liquid. I have air conditioning at home but still sometimes it will melt.
Heidi says
How’d it work out w the beeswax? I have some and would love to make, this but my Shea body butter liquifies easily so would love to know how this worked for you; thanks. Heidi
Rocqhawk says
I changed the recipe to add in White Beeswax pellets. It helped a lot. My foot balm is no longer in a liquid state. It took some trial and error but using 1/4 to 1/2 a cup does the trick.
Debbie says
Does this not need a preservative?
Erika says
I haven’t had any issues with not using a preservative in this recipe but we do use it up within 2-3 months.
Cheryl says
I made this and added 1/4 cup beeswax. The consistency is perfect.. This is easy to make and works great. My feet are so much softer already. I used the foot cheese grater and then put the heel cream on, then socks.
brenda parish says
can i use peppermint oil along with my other oil.
Erika says
Yes, peppermint is a great oil for feet!
sherri kennedy says
Can you melt ingredients in a pot slowly rather than a slow cooker?
Erika says
Yes you can.
Beatriz Carrillo says
I did try to make this Cream but after several Hours it did not solidify either. I will put in the refrigerador and hopes that it will solidify since I have made to take it on my trip overseas to take care of my cracked Heel. If the cream does not solidify I will add White Beeswax pellets as suggested. I love the smell and I am a big fan of tea tree oil and lavender. Thank you for the Recipe.
Sheri says
I wish you would’ve put the part about heat making the Oils less effective in the Main recipe or give a minimum temp to heat this recipe to. That’s kind of an important piece.
