Need a fast, healthy snack or breakfast your kids will actually eat? This strawberry banana smoothie is a go-to favorite in our house.
It’s naturally sweet and creamy and takes just a few minutes to blend up. Perfect for busy mornings, afternoon pick-me-ups, or even a quick after-school snack.
With simple ingredients you probably already have on hand, this smoothie is a win for both kids and moms.
Why You’ll Love This Smoothie Recipe
- Actually healthy, not just pretending to be – Unlike some store-bought smoothies loaded with sugar and hidden calories, this homemade version keeps things simple and wholesome. No mystery ingredients or sugar overload here.
- Kid-friendly and mom-approved – It’s sweet, creamy, and full of familiar flavors that even picky eaters love. And since it’s made with real fruit and yogurt, you can feel good about serving it up anytime.
- Quick and easy to make – In less than five minutes, you’ll have a smoothie ready to go. It’s the kind of recipe you can whip up on a busy morning or right before school pickup.
- Fun for kids to help with – Let them toss in the fruit, push the blender buttons, and make their own “special smoothie.” It’s a simple way to get them involved in the kitchen—and more excited to enjoy a healthy snack.
- Perfect anytime snack – Whether it’s mid-morning or mid-afternoon, this smoothie hits the spot without weighing you down. Keep the ingredients on hand, and it’s ready whenever you need a quick energy boost.
- Packed with protein – Thanks to Greek yogurt, this smoothie isn’t just tasty—it’s filling too. The added protein helps keep everyone satisfied longer, making it a great option for breakfast or a post-playground recharge.

Ingredients
- Banana
- Strawberries (fresh or frozen)
- Milk (regular, coconut, or almond milk)
- Strawberry yogurt (Greek-style is great, or use a yogurt tube for kids)
- Vanilla extract
Plus, you’ll also need a blender, of course! We have a handy little magic bullet that’s perfect for whipping up quick smoothies.
Instructions
Remember when I said this strawberry banana smoothie was so easy that kids could practically make it on their own? Here’s visual proof!
My 7-year-old, Emily, makes her very own smoothie almost entirely on her own. If the gallon of milk is very full, I give her a hand with that. And I run the magic bullet, too, of course!
Emily and I are going to show you how easy it is to whip up a strawberry banana smoothie…
First, gather all your ingredients.
Now you’re going to simply add all the ingredients to your blender or cup or whatever you’re using:
Yogurt…
Strawberries…
Banana…
Milk…
Vanilla extract…
Next, blend it all together.
If you like a frothier, thicker smoothie, you can add ice and blend again.
I usually only add a few ice chips when I’m making smoothies for the kids – it’s easier for them to drink with a straw when it’s not too thick.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
Variations
This strawberry banana smoothie is a great choice for adding to your family’s quick-and-easy snack list. Plus, there are so many ways to change it up! Here are a few of my favorite variations to try:
- Dairy-free – Use almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk along with a dairy-free yogurt alternative. It’s still creamy and delicious without the dairy.
- Extra protein – Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder, a spoonful of nut butter, or even a handful of oats for a more filling smoothie.
- Green smoothie – Toss in a handful of fresh spinach or kale. You’ll hardly taste it, and it’s a great way to sneak in some extra veggies.
- Lower sugar – Skip the strawberry yogurt and use plain Greek yogurt instead. A very ripe banana still keeps the smoothie sweet without added sugar.
- Tropical twist – Swap strawberries for pineapple or mango, or add a splash of orange juice for a sunny, tropical flavor.
- Chocolate treat – Add a spoonful of cocoa powder or chocolate protein powder for a fun chocolate-covered-strawberry vibe. Or, try out my chunky monkey smoothie recipe!
- Smoothie bowl – Make it thicker by using less liquid, then pour it into a bowl and top with sliced fruit, granola, or chia seeds.
Tips for Making the Best Smoothie Ever
- Use frozen fruit for extra creaminess – Frozen strawberries or bananas make your smoothie thick and frosty without needing ice. Plus, it’s super convenient—no chopping required.
- Choose a ripe banana – The riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie. No added sugar necessary!
- Customize to your taste – Add more milk if it’s too thick, or toss in extra fruit or a few ice cubes for a thicker texture. Totally up to you.
- Use Greek yogurt for a protein boost – It makes your smoothie creamy, filling, and perfect for breakfast or a post-activity snack.
- Make it kid-friendly – Let little ones help toss in ingredients or press the blend button. Using a yogurt tube and a fun straw makes it even more yummy.
- Clean your blender right away – A quick rinse and blend with warm, soapy water keeps it from getting crusty and saves you cleanup stress later.
So, have I convinced you? Grab your blender and give this one a try – I know you’ll love it!

Nicole G. says
I do love smoothies, especially strawberry banana. I hate to burst your bubble, though, but strawberry yogurt has plenty of added sugar itself that adds to your otherwise very healthy treat.
Erika says
That is true, Nicole. I just meant that there wasn’t additional sugar added to the recipe, or other sweeteners, like syrups, etc. that many smoothies contain. But you are right. 🙂 Thanks for your comment. Have a great day.
