Mornings with four kids have taught me one thing for sure: if breakfast isn’t ready before everyone wakes up, it isn’t happening. That’s exactly why these raspberry overnight oats have been on repeat at our house for years. Five minutes of prep the night before, and breakfast is waiting in the fridge when the morning chaos starts.
All you need are four simple ingredients: oats, milk, juicy raspberries, and a drizzle of honey. Layer them in little mason jars, let the fridge do the work while you sleep, and wake up to creamy, naturally sweet oats with no cooking at all. The kids love grabbing their own jar, and I love knowing they’re starting the day with something wholesome.
These oats are also easy to make gluten-free or dairy-free, so they work for just about every eater at your table. Whether you’re feeding a houseful of hungry kids or just want a grab-and-go breakfast for yourself, this is one recipe you’ll keep coming back to.
Why You’ll Love These Raspberry Overnight Oats
- Five-minute prep: Just layer, cover, and refrigerate. The fridge does the rest while you sleep.
- No cooking required: There’s no stove, no microwave, and no pot to scrub on a busy weekday morning.
- Only four ingredients: You probably already have oats, milk, and honey in the pantry, so all you need is a carton of raspberries.
- Perfect for grab-and-go mornings: Each serving is portioned into its own jar, so everyone can grab one on the way out the door, to the car line, or to the office.
- Easy to adapt: Swap in gluten-free oats, dairy-free milk, or maple syrup, and it works for almost any family.
- Kid-approved: The raspberries turn the oats a super pretty pink, and they’re naturally sweet, so kids actually want to eat them.

Ingredients
This easy recipe is so simple that the kids can even help! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Quick oats
(gluten-free if necessary). Old fashioned rolled oats also work well and create a more chewy texture.
- Milk or dairy-free substitute. I recommend almond or coconut milk, but use whatever you have on hand.
- Raspberries – fresh or frozen are both fine. Frozen berries will release a bit more juice overnight.
- Honey or maple syrup
By the way, if you have extra ingredients left over and are looking for something else to make, give these easy raspberry oatmeal bars a try!
How to Make Raspberry Overnight Oats
This recipe is so easy. All you need to do is simply layer the oats, milk, raspberries, and honey evenly into 4 small mason jars.

Stick it in the refrigerator overnight, give it a stir, and enjoy the next morning!
Another bonus of this Raspberry Overnight Oats recipe? It’s portable! Just grab a spoon and take it on-the-go!

Storage
Fridge: Keep the jars tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. That makes this a great Sunday meal-prep recipe for the first half of the week. The raspberries will soften and turn the oats pinker each day, which the kids think is fun.
Freezer: You can freeze assembled oats in freezer-safe jars for up to 3 months. Leave about an inch of space at the top for expansion. Thaw them overnight in the fridge and stir well before eating, since the berries will be softer after freezing.
To reheat: If you prefer warm oatmeal, take the metal lid off and microwave the jar for 30–60 seconds, stirring halfway through. Add a splash of milk if the oats seem thick. You can also warm them in a small saucepan over low heat.
Tips + Tricks for the Best Raspberry Overnight Oats
Cover them well
Always use a lid or plastic wrap. Covering keeps the oats from drying out and from picking up other smells in the fridge.
Adjust the texture to your liking
If you like thicker oats, use a little less milk or stir in a teaspoon of chia seeds. If you like them looser, add an extra splash of milk in the morning.
Lightly mash the berries
Smash a few raspberries with a fork before layering them in. They release more juice and flavor, so every bite tastes like raspberry.
Make a week’s worth at once
Double or triple the batch and line the jars up in the fridge. It’s a mom’s dream when everyone can grab their own breakfast.
Use wide-mouth jars
Wide-mouth jars are much easier to layer, stir, and eat from, especially for little hands.
Variations
Even though this raspberry overnight oats recipe is awesome as-is, sometimes it’s nice to change it up a bit! Here are a few variations to try:
- Add chocolate – If you haven’t tried raspberries and chocolate together, you are seriously missing out! Add a tablespoon of mini chocolate chips to this recipe and see what I mean.
- Try different berries – Raspberries are delicious, but why not switch things up and try different berries like blueberries or strawberries? You can even mix different types of berries for a fruit medley. I highly recommend trying this strawberries and cream overnight oats recipe, too.
- Make it tangy – Like a bit of tang (and some extra protein?) Add a few spoonfuls of Greek yogurt to the mix.
- Sprinkle in some nuts – Add some crunch and extra healthy fats by sprinkling in a tablespoon of your favorite chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pecans work great!)
- Top it off – Get creative with your toppings! Add coconut flakes, cacao nibs, granola, or anything else that sounds delicious.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to customizing raspberry overnight oats. Experiment and find your perfect combination! With endless possibilities, you’ll never get bored of this nutritious breakfast option.

Customizing Raspberry Overnight Oats
One of the best things about overnight oats is their versatility. Here are some tips for customizing your raspberry overnight oats to suit different dietary needs and preferences:
Vegan-Friendly

To make a dairy-free version, use plant-based milk such as almond, soy, or oat milk. If you’d like to make it completely vegan, make sure to swap out the honey for maple syrup too.
Gluten-Free
Making this recipe gluten-free is super easy! All you need to do is ensure your oats are certified gluten-free. I highly recommend trying my favorite GF oats—they taste incredible!
Protein-Packed
Boost the protein content by adding a scoop of your favorite protein powder or incorporating nuts and seeds. This is especially beneficial for those needing extra energy and fullness throughout the day.
Low-Sugar Option
If you prefer to avoid sugar, you can skip the added honey and rely on the natural sweetness of the raspberries. You can also add a few drops of stevia or monk fruit extract for a low-calorie sweetening option.

FAQs
Do you eat overnight oats cold or warm?
Typically, overnight oats are enjoyed cold right out of the fridge.
However, if you’re not a fan of cold oats (it took me a little getting used to after years of warm oatmeal), you can easily pop it in the microwave or reheat it on the stove while your coffee is brewing or you make your favorite matcha latte.
Can I use frozen raspberries?
Yes, frozen raspberries work just as well as fresh ones. They may add a bit more moisture to the oats, so you might want to adjust the liquid content slightly. Or, you can let the raspberries thaw before you add them to help reduce the liquid amount.
How long can I store overnight oats?
Overnight oats can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. This means you can prepare a few servings at once and have breakfast ready for several days.
So, there you have it—your new favorite breakfast. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!

Erika, I had no idea this was going to be your website until I saw your profile there! I love your new site. 🙂 Those overnight oats look so amazing. My kids love oatmeal. I need to make this for them them. I know they would love it. It would be a great breakfast for them before school too!

Thanks, Jodi!

So glad I found you again! I love your recipes! I’ve made overnight oats many different ways. I really enjoy them with a mix of dried fruit too – the fruit is plump and moist the next morning! We’ve been using and liking cashew milk around here, as yet another dairy free option. Rice, almond and coconut milks have all kind of come and gone for us, and I have to rotate my son’s milk options or he’ll develop a new sensitivity. Thanks for the reminder to try this again! And the little mason jars are just so cute. 😀
Erika says
Hi Sarah! Great to see you here!
Dried fruit is a great idea – I’ll have to try that with my kids.
It’s nice to meet another “dairy free” mom. We’ve just gone dairy free due to at least one of my kids having a dairy allergy. (One confirmed, but I suspect at least 2 others have a sensitivity.) It’s definitely an adventure, but totally worth it to have them be healthier. Thank goodness for options, like almond, coconut, & cashew milk!
Any tips for me?

I like oatmeal, and I like the idea of having it almost make itself overnight. Does the honey serve a purpose other than taste?
Erika says
The honey is just a natural sweetener. You could use regular sugar instead, but I personally prefer honey. 🙂
Tracey says
Can you use frozen raspberries in this recipe?
Erika says
Sure, Tracey!
Dawna says
Curious- you called for 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of oats but then you call for 1/4 cup in each jar then redo the layers 1/4 cup again. Isn’t that two cups of oats and two cups of milk? My math brain is all confused! Lol
Cecilia says
I was thinking the same…
Erika says
Thanks, Dawna and Cecilia, for bringing this to my attention. I’ve fixed the recipe. 🙂
Jane Applebaum says
I am trying overnight oats for the first time. Do I need to cover the oats when I put them in the fridge overnight? I have never seen this addressed so I just need the reassurance that I’ll be doing the right thing. Thank you.
Erika says
Hi Jane, yes you will want to cover the oats. I hope you enjoy it!
