Chocolate mousse made with avocado

If you are looking for a completely guilt-free dessert that satisfies all your chocolate cravings, I’ve got the perfect solution for you: avocado chocolate mousse. Yes, this chocolate mousse recipe is filled with good-for-you fats and mounds of chocolate flavor. You will quite literally eat this one by the spoonful!

This chocolate mousse recipe is going to blow your mind. Its sweet creamy chocolaty goodness rivals any chocolate dessert.

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

If you tasted this, I bet you would have never, ever guessed what ingredients are in this delicious chocolate mousse…at least, I never would have!

I actually made this recipe by accident one day when I was experimenting with a new smoothie bowl recipe.  Lucky for all of us, huh!?

Before I tell you what the ingredients are, I have to tell you that I served this to my husband and kids and even though at least 2 of them don’t like the “secret” ingredient in this guilt-free chocolate mousse, they all loved this Chocolate Mousse.

Ready? It’s avocado.

Okay, I know some of you may be wrinkling your nose and wondering how this combination could possibly taste good. But, I promise you that it does! Avocado gives this mousse the most incredible creamy flavor while also keeping you satisfied and full for longer.

Benefits of Avocado

This recipe makes four servings of avocado chocolate mousse. A single serving will net you so many incredible avocado benefits, including:

  • 49% of your daily vitamin K, which is essential for bone health
  • 30% of your daily folate, which helps red blood cell development and skin growth. If this sounds familiar, it’s because folate is crucial to have during pregnancy!
  • 25% of your vitamin C, and let’s be honest, we could all use a little bit of vitamin C right now!
  • Potassium, Vitamins B5 + B6 and many more minerals that are essential for our bodies.

5-Minute Dessert

Another amazing thing about this chocolate mousse is that it takes less than 5 minutes to whip up (!!!).

This dessert doesn’t require it to be chilled, so unlike other mousse recipes, this one really is practically instant gratification. All you have to do is throw a few things in a food processor, then you can dig right in. So easy!

How to Make Guilt-Free Chocolate Mousse

Okay, now that you know why you absolutely have to make this chocolate mousse, let’s talk about how to actually do it. Luckily, making this dessert couldn’t be easier. If you can push a food processor button, you can make this mousse!

Ingredients:

  • ripe avocados
  • cacao powder
  • honey (for more benefits, use raw honey)
  • vanilla extract
  • almond milk

Recommended Supplies:

  • food processor
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • spatula for scraping
  • small serving bowls or ramekins

Step by Step Directions

First, remove the seed and peel from the avocado. Then, measure out all the other ingredients, and add them all into the food processor. By the way, if you are looking for a good food processor, I love mine! This is the one we have.

Next, hit the pulse button a few times to get the mixture started. Then, process until everything comes together and is nice and smooth…

Some of the mixture will get stuck on the sides, but we want to make sure that bit of the avocado chocolate mousse is smooth too. So, scrape down the sides.

Then process for a few more seconds until your mousse is smooth and creamy with no chunks. Trust me – the last thing you want when enjoying your chocolate mousse is to end up with a chunk of avocado in your spoon!

How to Serve Chocolate Mousse

Unlike other mousse recipes, this one does not need to be chilled prior to serving – you can eat it right away!

This is a pretty versatile dish, and there are a few ways you can serve it. You can be a little decadent and serve topped with whipped cream and even sprinkle on a few chocolate chips.

Or, to keep it more on the guilt-free end, I usually serve this with fresh berries – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc.

Enjoy!

Hi. I tried this recipe and love it but not sweet enough when i add the cocoa powder. Should I sweeten it more? Any ideas?

Yes, you can add more sweetener. You can add a little more honey or try another option, like stevia. A couple drops of stevia (or more depending on how sweet you want it) should sweeten it nicely without changing the texture.

Made this as a gluten free option for New Years Eve. I added extra honey but the dessert was not sweet. It was a hit and had to share the recipe. Definitely make it again as it is a fast delicious dessert that has no setting time.

Yes, you can use any milk. It will probably alter the flavor, especially if you use something like coconut milk, but it shouldn’t affect the texture. Enjoy!

I just made this for dessert tonight while my boyfriend was playing poker. I snuck him some and he was shocked when I told him it was avocado! I needed a little bit more almond milk than the recipe called for, but this was amazing. Topped it with blueberries and unsweetened coconut.

Hi Simone, this one is best made right before you eat it because it uses avocado. I have stored leftovers in the fridge and it doesn’t taste quite as good.
