Today, I’m going to show you how to make a “Cheerful” essential oil room spray with witch hazel. This easy DIY recipe uses citrus essential oils for a “happy” combination of essential oils.
Essential oil room sprays are a great way to use essential oils in an easy, safe manner that the whole family can enjoy and benefit from. We already have a favorite Christmas essential oil spray (you can find that here); this one is a twist on that blend but created specifically with “cheerfulness” in mind.
If you are reading this and in a post-Christmas slump, this is a great homemade essential oil spray for you! I know I’m always a bit down each year when it’s time to take down the Christmas tree and holiday decorations knowing we still have 2+ long winter months ahead of us.
Spray this around the room if you are starting to feel a bit blue, and being listing off your blessings as your mind uplifts and relaxes!
How to Make a DIY Essential Oil Room Spray:
You’ll need:
a glass spray bottle, witch hazel, fractionated coconut oil, spring or distilled water, and your citrus essential oils like grapefruit, bergamot, and lemon. (Scroll down to see the full instructions with a printable version.)
This all-natural simple room spray uses witch hazel along with a little fractionated coconut oil and water to help preserve and disperse the essential oil drops. Just make sure you shake well before each use.
Take your empty glass spray bottle and add 2 teaspoons each of witch hazel and fractionated coconut oil.
Next add 10 drops each of Grapefruit, Bergamot, and Lemon essential oils.
Finally, fill with spring or distilled water and shake well before each use.
Which Essential Oils are Good for Cheerfulness?
Grapefruit, bergamot, and lemon essential oils are well known for their “cheerful” properties. Orange is another great essential oil that I love using in my “wake up” morning blend!
When you’ve added the essential oils you want for this “Cheerful” blend, then be sure to shake your homemade essential oil room spray bottle well before spraying.
Then take a deep breath and smile!
This “Cheerful” essential oil room spray with witch hazel also makes a wonderful homemade gift for your mom friends. Many of us need a pick-me-up to help get through these long winters and this can not only be helpful for that, but also a great way to show you understand and remind them that they are not alone.

Which Essential Oil Brand is Best?
For the best results, you will want to choose a high-quality essential oil brand that is 100% pure and offers third-party testing for quality control. Read this post for more info on how to choose essential oils that work for you and your family (beyond the brand.)
My favorite essential oil company is Rocky Mountain Oils, followed by Eden’s Garden, and Ancient Apothecary by Dr. Axe.
